Other than the position of the fuel lines, I don't have a clue what's the difference. I know the E7181M is the equivalent of mopar 5143160AA as the E7187M is the equivalent of 5143160AB. Anybody know why Chrysler redesigned this pump on their Ram with the Duramax? I'm about to install the in-tank lift pump mod and I see that the E7181M is 180$ at Autozone when the E7187M is 240$. I would like to know the difference. If the E7181M is doing the job and has great reliability, I'll try to get that one. On the other side, I don't mind paying if the E7187M is a great improvement for both performance and reliability.

I have been trying to find the older 05-06 Dodge lift pump but it is hard to find. This is how it works for Dodge trucks, I think:

-the 03-04s used the E7187M (>15 psi.)
-the 05-06s used the E7181M (~8 psi.)
(the 8 psi wasn't enough so)
-the 05-06 replacement is the E7187M
(the oem part number went from ...aa to ...ab)

My worry is that the 15-30 psi is too much for us.
Maybe it can be adjusted?

edit: I have found no literature on the E7181M so the 8 psi is only something I have read on other Dodge forums complaining of inadequate pressures for hauling and hills but this also may be an inline lift issue?

I like the idea of an in-tank lift pump but after an hour of looking, I could only find this post:

http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/ ... ?p=2424937

And he says:
Quote:
Airtex E7181M in-tank direct replacement for the 04-07 Dodge. Rated for 75-90 GPH at 15-25PSI

Way,way back (a little down the page, viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22997&p=228025&hilit=lift+pump+psi#p228025), retmil46 said:

Same individual also tracked down the Bosch literature which states that our particular CP3 pump will work with up to 16 psi on the inlet, that you would encounter problems only when you exceeded 16 psi.

Do we really want a 15+ psi lift?

I am starting to think that the E7187M is not the ...AB replacement the dealer gives.

I posted a picture of the E7187M:

and, down the page, gmctd said:

Squeeto, that's similar to the intank conversion unit for the '98-'02 VP44'ed 24v Cummins, uses that rubber gasket 'stead of an o-ring - the '03-'04 CRD version is similar, but lower pressure, ~9psi - the '05^ looks exactly like the KJ, but with a pump motor

Also from http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/ ... 999p6.html
Quote:
The Dodge '05^ in-tank fuel pump meets all the requirements for lift pump service -
- pumps a steady 9psi at idle and WOT at all oem power levels, fully suitable for the CRD HD optional power levels
- is pre-filtered in-tank
- is flow-thru when fail
- the 9-psi regulator is flow-thru when fail
- will supply 9psi at 2gph or ~70gph thru the factory filtration media

So maybe your only options now are E7181M or 5143160AA.
I don't know if the 5143160AB will have too much pressure.

I just ordered the (I believe) last 5143160AA here on the island, shipped for $201 Canadian plus tax.
I have seen them go much cheaper but ...

It would be nice if someone could look at a 5143160AB to confirm the original manufacturer.

Well I just finished talking to Airtex tech and they said the max pressure on the E7187M is 11.6 psi and on the E7181M is 15.95 psi and I asked twice and the tech rechecked his data also so I hope this doesn't ruin anyones day but I always say its better to know! Go to the source, I was one click away from ordering the E7181M, I like the idea of the lift pump in the tank and I thought I better call Airtex tech support so now you know the true pressure have a good holiday! crdjoe..... its a love hate relationship!

 The E7187M does not fit a 2006 KJ CRD!!
Found this out the hard way.
Both Airtex specs for the E7181M and The E71817M show 15-30 psi
Do not waste your time, order the E7181M

Happy :JEEPIN:

Out of curiosity, is the lift pump just to eliminate the air in the fuel line issues? Does it help support more flow when you have a GDE hot tune/Stage 2 Turbo kit?

Primarily air in fuel cure although my personal suspicion is elimination of the quick disconnect fittings back by the fuel tank would accomplish the same thing as that's the primary source of air, other than the fuel filter head itself.

I doubt there is any benefit, assuming the stock system is tight, for those performance mods. I've had the Stage II turbo and associated tune for 1.5 years now and have never had "insufficient" fuel issues although I rarely lead foot the CRD. No lift pump of any kind but I do have the 2n gen fuel filter head.

With my Hot tune (no stage II turbo) I managed to suck in Air. I have the new filter head, but under WOT the HOT tune "over-fuels" and I got a temporary CEL and limp mode. I am hoping my in-tank lift pump prevents that.

So Pap is correct, on a tight system it is not necessary, but it appears a lot of CRDs on here don't have a 100% tight system.
