I have two issues that I we have learned to live with on our liberty.

First one down a steep hill at 35 mph, let off the go pedal and let he coast down the hill, the tach starts to drop, and bam a hard down shift .
Second is the same as the first but a 55 mph, this time it down shifts and is stuck in the lower gear for a few seconds.

Just wonder if anyone else have had these problems. We work around this giving the jeep a little fuel to keep the rpms up around 1500 while coasting down hills.

Sounds like you need the GDE tune?

2,000 miles left on my warranty, and then I am sending my ECU out.

First step is to see if any codes have been set.

I've had that happen once when cruise control was on. Heading down a steep hill, over-running the set speed, and then a transmission downshift to get back to the cruise control set speed. Now I just cancel cruise in that situation and re-engage it after the downhill.

Like Glend said, it has only happened to me when going downhill with the cruise on. Now I leave it off. I understand the GDE can extend the 'glide' but I like the engine braking from the CRD going downhill, especially when towing but it doesn't downshift for me unless the CC is on.

Now that I think about, this probably happens for me with cruise on too.

It will still do this with the GDE when coasting downhill with the cruise on, the cruise is trying to maintain the set speed from both going over or under without direct throttle input.

You can cancel the cruise or just kick the shifter into neutral when going downhill to maintain the glide.
