I figured I would post my heater setup, its a harbor freight trickle/float charger, and a harbor freight extension cord/3 way splitter, plus the factory block heater. I put it where it is for two reasons; it was easier than routing it around up to the front; and it puts it up where it is easy to get to for plugging/unplugging it. For some people this is a big deal not having to bend over to unplug it, so that is a big consideration. Plus, you won't forget about it before driving off. ![]()

Interesting, now you only need an auto-kickout plug on the fender like on the fire trucks. Or better yet, the design idea I had but haven't built yet: Second battery, connected to a 500 watt inverter, into a timer, connected to the block heater. The battery would charge from the alternator, but not discharge when connected through an RV battery isolator diode, so the starting battery never gets drained. |

Might be coming to an end down in the flat land, but up here, it is still going strong. Got snow last night. |

Most isolator set-ups are not really isolating the starter battery completely since it still shares a common ground with the secondary battery. A difference of potential is going to make those electrons seek balance in the force. |

yes they will.. all diodes have a reverse current..but I think the battery will self discharge faster. yes.. most reverse currents are in the microamp range..or less. -dkenny |

The "no" was in response to the earlier statement that the batteries would equalize merely from having a common ground. One wire doth not a circuit make. Properly isolating batteries does not require isolating their grounds. |
