Has anyone installed the nsg370 manuel six speed into their Liberty. I know the gas v6 Liberty was available with the six speed, and overseas you can get a Wrangler 2.8 CRD manuel. So this trans can fit both engine and vehicle body, so has anyone done it? |

mackruss had one in South Africa...... you'd probably have to have a clutch from Europe and computers programmed to work together. actually I think Bursnville has done it http://www.burnsvilleoffroad.com/ |

The manual can't handle the full torque of the CRD engine with out the engine being being detuned. In fact the CRD has so much torque that they F37ed the ECM (dropped HP from 165 to 148) and TCM (raised shift points) so it would not destroy the torque converter. SunCoast came up with a heavy duty torque converter to handle the HP/torque capability. SunCoast also came up with a front pump fix that gets rid of the lock up clutch chatter with out replacing the pump. Later on Chrysler came up with the J8/Euro Torque converter, not as strong as SunCoast but cheaper, yup cheaper. |

I have a 2002 2.5lt CRD 5 speed manual, its great, no detune, plenty of torque. Pipeliner has a 2.8 6 speed manual with that gearbox, masses of power. I watched Pipeliners CRD crawl up a steep rocky track towing a 1.3 ton off road camper trailer, did it with ease. Both Aussie KJ's. |

Check the posted specs, Chrysler turns down the HP and Torque on the Manuals. Your Ausie 2.8L manual version may have more HP & Torque than the US/Canada F37ed version. |

The manual KJ with the nsg370 sold overseas has a torque limit applied mainly in gears 1 through 3. The max allowed torque at 3000 rpm is roughly 300-315 nm and at 4000 rpm it is around 200-220 nm. In gears 4-6 more torque is allowed. The f37'd CRD in the US has less allowable torque than the MTX version in gears 3-5 from 1500-3000 rpm, but everywhere else the ATX has higher peak torque than the MTX. Ideally it would be nice to have a manual box that did not require any torque limiting, but this would require much more retrofitting to get something to fit correctly. If Jeep were to bring the diesel back to the US market, they would be pleasantly surprised with the sales demand...if the application was executed properly. A little advertising would not hurt either! |
