I just recently purchased a 2005 CRD on Sat. It has 110,000 miles on it. I was kinda leary about buying a vehicle with that many miles on it. At the bank they offered me a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty that covers engine, transmission, turbo, rear suspension, steering brakes, etc. Pretty much all of the big ticket items. At first I declined but after thinking about it I bought the warranty. The check engine light came on the day I brought it home. I went out of town a few days and when I came back I took the CRD to my local jeep dealer to have an inspection done. They told me a rack and pinion seal is leaking, the inlet tube for the turbo and possibly the turbo itself is leaking oil, there is a problem with the ERG, the right front caliper is locked up, and the transfer case switch is bad. The used car dealer knew of the inspection and said that if there were any major problems with the car that I could "unwind" the deal. He also offered a 50/50 warranty which means for thirty days if something comes up he would split the repair costs with me. My question is do I just take the CRD back to the dealer and forget about it. Or according to the extended warranty it appears all of those items are covered, so should I have them fixed under warrnaty and keep the CRD and hope that it will be reliable after the work. Thanks for any input.

Get a second opinion from an independent Diesel type shop. The EGR is an      device that should be as welcome as a pedophile in your kids school.
Brake calipers are not tough to swap out either.
If you are looking for a perfect car or an illusion of one, perhaps the CRD is not for you. You need to love diesels and their torque.

If you buy and cannot turn a wrench, buy the warranty. This is not a 90's diesel.

On that turbo oil leaking dealer probly saw wet intake and outlet CAC hoses and assumed it was the turbo when it may be as simple as an overactive CrankcaseVentilationValve letting out too much oil fumes or even a glogged/dirty air filter. MAP sensor cleaning also in order.--Read up on this section as there are numerous items that probly need to be addressed but one really needs to be wrench savy to really appreciate this power train in this truck.
As said "this isn't your Dad's Oldsmobile Diesel".....
Properly worked over this Liberty Diesel is one dandy of a machine.
Oh yeah 110000 miles...Did the timing belt get changed already?

Personal Opinion: You are purchasing a vehicle with too many miles and too many issues. Return it, get your money back, and look for a CRD with half the mileage and a better maintenance record... there are plenty out there.

Unless you got it dirt cheap, I agree. Way too many good ones available with 1/2 the miles.
