As I understand it you should use what the service manual calls for and nothing else!!!!!

Also, the FSM states that you need 5 quarts of trans fluid to refill when doing a filter/fluid change. Wrong! I found this to be not even close, 5 qt. will not put it on the tip of dip stick. It will take 7.5 quarts of fluid to get you close to where you need to have it.

Use ATF-4, Brand does not matter as much as specifications. The 545RFE was designed to run on ATF-4 and nothing else.
Use something else, you are on your own. If the jug does not say ATF-4, it is not the right fluid, in spite of what the sales associate tells you.
You have chatter of the Torque Converter Lockup clutch to look forward to, if the fluid you use is totally wrong.
Save your luck for driving on the road and not getting your CRD totaled by some idiot, T boning you.

I agree. I'd use Mopar ATF+4 if at all possible. If you can't afford it, buy another brand that is clearly labeled ATF+4.

Definitely use ATF +4. I found Valvoline at Autozone, about $6 a quart when I did my filters/ fluid change. Both Amsoil and Royal Purple say that they meet ATF+4 requirements, but they also say they meet Dexron requirements. ATF+4 and Dexron are two COMPLETELY different things. Why risk a $2500 tranny on a name?

Anybody want to start a pool on how long that avatar lasts?

Considering the RP was probably considerably more, I'd return it and get the ATF+4. I bought castrol for $5.50. Your choices are basically mopar, castrol, valvoline, advance brand, carquest brand, other generics. Supposedly all of them are the exact same formula, but I decided to grab the castrol.
