I noticed when I changed my rear diff. oil that it is leaking some oil on the drive shaft side. Is this seal easy to change out, or is it something best left for a shop? I've got 48K on it, no vibrations that I can tell. Thanks

Dave

That would be the pinion seal. Is it dripping all over, or is it just a little wet or stained looking? If it's not dripping I would just live with it. It's pretty normal for pinion and axle shaft seals to weep a little.

Mine's leaked on and off for the last 20k. I will leave it alone until I see fluid on the garage floor.

I can see where it has "sprayed" a little oil above it as it spins, and I just noticed some drops on the drive way. Not a whole lot, but it is definitely leaking. Guess I'll just keep an eye on the level, and have it fixed when it gets worse. FSM is showing you need some special tools to load the pinion bearing correctly.
