What would you go with? I found the green air for $25.75 + ship on clearance and the True flow on clearance for $19.95 + $9.98 ship.......HJ

I'm not familiar with either of those. I would recommend this: http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=EAA201-EA

FRAM. $12 in your local parts hut, and made in Canada not China.

If either of those (or the Amsoil) are made in the USA, I would consider them too, but don't know about them honestly.

Amsoil makes the best air filter.

EAA201

I believe the Amsoil is USA-made. The beauty of it is that for $38 you get a filter that is warrantied to last for 100k miles. All you have to do is vacuum it off on occasion.

The green air is USA made too.........I ended up buying one since the clearance price was so low.......HJ

I don't see how a filter can last 100k miles by only vacuuming it on occasion. It's got to be getting more and more plugged as time goes on, or it's just not catching much.

Use a Mopar or Napa filter. They have more pleats than Fram and the best filtration you can get. With a turbocharger, air cleanliness is too important to fool around with "lifetime" filters.

I tried the green air filter and it leaked around the edges allowing dirt to go to the turbo. :furious:

I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it, thanks!......Good thing I only bought one! HJ

The Amsoil isn't a normal paper filter, it's designed with a different material to be reusable. It catches the dirt/particles, which then can be vacuumed out or blown out with compressed air. A bunch of folks run them on here, especially over the other "reusable" filter - K&N.

If their nanofibers trap and hold particles as well as they say they do, I just don't see how a shop vac is going to just pull them all out. Seems like it would just be getting more and more plugged despite cleaning, which would ruin your mpgs and power. I think Amsoil counts on you not noticing over the course of those 4yrs/100,000mi.

A yes sustainable air filters.

I second what CRD said.

Nothing lasts forever, but we can extend its life by doing the regular maintenance.

Yes you’re able to clean and reuse them to save money, but they clog easily and impede AIR flow, something our engines crave a lot of. I am speaking from experience here; I used one in the past.

I got tired of cleaning it out every 3 weeks or so and realized that I purchased a monotonous new chore.

I shelved it and installed a Napa filter in its place, that I change at scheduled intervals and clean out with bursts of air in between intervals.

It’s still on the shelf gathering dust reminding me of how easily I’m swayed by new fads.

It isnt about whether it can last 100,000 miles. Its about the technology that is so superior in its filtration abilities!!!

Ok, if you get a new Amsoil filter every 10,000 miles and then throw it out, I'm with ya!

I ran a fram on the last 10k oil change. 4ppm silicon is what the oil tested. YMMV

I've been using Fram for a while since they're so cheap & I can get them anywhere. However, this is the last I'll buy one; it had a bunch of flash on it that I didn't notice when I first installed it. When I was checking for problems in the system last night, I took it out and noticed pieces of it had fallen off into the intake. Not cool - and an easily preventable quality problem.

From what I understand - given an identical pore size, the same material, and no maintenance - longevity is simply a matter of filtration area. Theoretically, if one filter has 50% more filtration area, it will last 50% longer.
However, when I was in HS and college, I always vacuumed off my air filters to extend their life - no matter the brand. The limitation was usually the fact that the cheap paper filters simply couldn't tolerate being messed with very much & were easily ruined.

Our room air purifiers have a thin carbon prefilter that takes out most of the large junk before hitting the (expensive) paper filters & my dirt bike has a sponge prefilter that I rinse & treat with a spray every 500 miles. I'm surprised I have never heard such a thing mentioned for our cars . . .

Your experience with vacuuming out a paper filter is what I would expect. They aren't designed to put up with the physical abuse of a shop vac OR an airgun. For all the dust and dirt that you can SEE coming off the inlet side... What about the particles that you can't see, that may be getting pushed closer to escape on the engine-side? You don't want ANYTHING making it through one of those. Sub-micron dust is still an abrasive, and if enough gets through... Bad things.

That said, I think people are doing far more damage to their engines with the abrasive carbon being re-introduced from the EGR (Ever started your CRD with the turbo off? See how much GIANT CRAP comes flying out?) Think about that, and that those particles aren't filtered at all. *shudder*

All I do is take mine out and carefully bang it on the work bench to dislodge the crap. I usually can get a lot of stuff on the table. Then I put it back in.
