ok guys, so from what i have gathered so far, i could send in my ECU somewhere to get it re flashed for some hp or i could add a pressure box like a Dr. Performance. So my question is do you guys stack tunes? like the re flashed ecu with a rail pressure box as well. what kind of rail pressure do you guys run? any issues with injectors going out due to severe rail pressure? Sorry i have tons of questions. i will try to keep them in separate posts to avoid any further confusion. thanks! |

This is the place. I would be careful about stacking anything. This is not a Cummings. Might I suggest you spend some time reading back through the threads.. Guys have dropped out after they blew the motor pressure stacking and flashing, your choice, your motor. I like Green Diesel, Inmotion has supporters for flashes too. The goal is to keep the rascal running without too many hassles. Weaknesses include torque converter, transmission pump, EGR system, fuel filter......check out the F37 I think, a customer satisfaction de tune to keep the t/c alive. Welcome and here is to many inexpensive miles. |

Spoke to keith @ gde today. he said his "hot" tune was pushing the injection system to its limits without compromise and or engine failure ....so with that being said im going to go with the basic DIY mods,a TC, the basic bolt on's, and a green tune...for now. Im researching what cp3 model these use. i have an extensive collection of cp3 parts which i plan to compare to the liberty crd cp3....might could get a little more flow. anyone know anything about the cp3

GMCTD tried stacking an Edge on top of an InMotion Stage 2 and it was too crazy for him. Unlike a Cummins that can run 800 to 1,000 HP for a brief period of time, our VM 2.8L with an aluminum head can't do 336 - 412 HP and hold together. The wildest tune I ever heard about where the CRD holds together, is the RocketChip tune, but good luck hunting them down. You have to go to a TDI convention where they are hanging out, hand them your ECM and pay up front. I don't yet know how RocketChip feels about the J8/Euro converter, but before it was an option, RocketChip did not want to do anything unless you had a strong aftermarket torque converter like SunCoast installed. The Marine rating for the VM 2.8L is ~225 HP, check out the Marine rating for the Cummins you have and do the fudge factoring. Remember, marine engines have the entire lake for a cooling system. |

Tried a predator chip + inmotion ecu tune in my crd. egt where a bit higher but not a concern. the crd was FAST, would put a smile on my face. too much fuel at idle, would cause it to run rough at idle or even stumble. ergo, Took the predator box out. have no way to measure if it causes any damage or how long the engine would survive, but was fun for a few days. |

cool thanks, thats what i wanted to know. i plan on doing plenty of gauges so i could see whats going on. this will all come later when i can afford a toatsed engine...but until then just wondering. |

I personally think stacking stuff that does the same thing is insanity on any engine. But a lot of truck guys do it. The GDE hot with their turbo and good TC is pretty darn good. Why would you go messing with the cp3? It can push way more fuel stock than the motor could ever handle. A factory CP3 on the Cummins can do 550hp or so. |

A factory CP3 on the Cummins can do 550hp or so. first off, us cummins guys dont stack stuff that does the same thing. we might use a tuner linke a smarty which we can control timing and rail pressure and stack it with say a Dr. Performance pressure box b/c the technology in the pressure box is better than the technology of the smarty, so we dont increase the pressure on the smarty......Also when you have a ported fuel rail and huge injector's the fuel/rail pressure decreases so you have to increase that pressure and at the smae time you can add more fuel...... I didnt know what the GDE "hot" tune did to the ECU. Hint's my status........NEWB. I could go on and on about cp3 pumps injection pump, diesel fuel injection.......i just wanted some info. thats why im here. |

They have all the specifics on what their tune does listed on their website. |
