An independent trans shop rreplaced my TC with a Precision Industries unit (and a new pump and transco kit). Still shuddered as before. The shop talked with Suncoast, who sent one of theirs. He installed the SUncoast and the truck still had the problem. He then took the CRD to a dealer who flashed it, probably with the F37. No shudder any more - along with no power or performance of course <expletive deleted>. (long story on why he took it to the dealer.....)

With Inmotion's help, I reinstalled my InMotion tune. Performance is back but so is the shudder. Somebody suggested that I may need a lift pump and I thought I would ask if anyone else thinks that would help. From some of the posts, I hear I probably should have just put in a Euro TC, which I still can, but I didn't read any definitive 100% statements that this would solve it either. I sense the trans is stronger than the OEM and doesn't shudder as easily but it's definitely still there at about 60 mph and 1800 plus minus rpms.

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

GDE uses the Euro TC and do not have any shudder issues. That is with Hot tune, Stage II turbo and TCM back to pre F37.

One of the leading causes of shutter when all else is correct is,WRONG FLUID!

Lots of Shops believe salesmen who sell universal fluid and dump in the wrong stuff, hence shutter.

11 years ago I used universal fluid Dextron/Mercon (that stuff is old history now) so my guys would not put the wrong stuff into a car and screw it up, that was long before ATF-3 and ATF-4 was created.

Try calling SunCoast YET? 1-800-868-0053

They investigate every legitimate problem and have gone as far as cutting open the Converter and inspecting it.

I want to believe GDE would not recommend using the wrong fluid with a J8/Euro either.

Why in the world would you write this??? The most knowledgeable person I've ever talked to regarding CRD's is Keith.

I don't think casting doubts on Keith's knowledge of what's going on is going to gain any currency here whatsoever.

Talk trash about GDE and you'll alienate at least one forum member. . . and probably lots more.

This is a posting I left last year. Both of my Jeeps have the original TCM program.Take a look and see if it describes anything in common with what you are experiencing ,Maybe it has no similarity at all.Try the full time four wheel mode to test and see if it improves or eliminates the condition. This description has held true for other crd's in my area.I will not say it is the cure but it may help someone to find it.

Posts: 28 To all who have experienced the "shudder":
I too have felt the same condition with both of the crd's which I have had for 4 years each now, bought both new and felt shudder before 10,000 on both. From what I have discovered it does seem to be an issue related to vibration that sets up under more extreme low engine rpm/ high torque conditions in lock-up in fourth and/or fifth gear. I installed the SEGR's on both crd's which allowed me to crank up the power with a TDC box with no CEL.The vibration at 57 in lock-up when you hit a hill was even more apparent, but is only in about a 2-3 mph window
However bad the Shudder is though ,I found that if i was driving with the transfer case set to Full Time Four wheel the shudder condition goes away completely,on BOTH of my jeeps. But obviously most of us will not run in this setting year round . So I can only assume that by sending some of the torque to the front axles cancels out the engine torque pulsations due to the second drive shaft directional rotation load.
If you look at the tail mounting rubber that supports the tranfer case tail you will see that it is EXTREMELY soft and bouncy.I rigged up a temporary clamp on the rear tail mount to reduce the amount of bounce that could develope in the mount and surprisingly enough the shudder was gone in the 2wd setting: but it also caused more engine hum to transmit into the cab at the floor because it must be too rigid. There seems to be a small rpm window combined with higher torque that causes a pulsation to set up in the drive train. Once the rpm and mph increase past this window( about 1700 rpm on mine) the shudder dissipates.
If this shudder was related to the torque converter the shudder should be present in 2 OR 4 wheel drive.
This is also a condition I experienced in the early and mid 90's on the 3/4 and 1 ton Rams with a Cummins 6 diesel. At low engine rpm and in high gear if you crowded the accelerator down without down shifting it could develope a violent shudder shake condition,so far that it could damage the drive shaft .
The shudder of our jeep doesn't even come close to this.Maybe some one can develope a better tranfer case tail mount???
Try putting yours in Full time long enough to see if the shudder condition disappears.
This is just my 2 cents worth but I think the mount is where our problem lies, and the F37 was an attemp to reduce the power enough to make it go away------maybe on some!
I will not give up my crd's power!!

Trash GDE, no way, even though I have chosen so far not use their products, I believe they are intelligent enough not to recommend using the wrong fluid. If you read what I wrote instead of jumping to premature reactionary conclusions, you will see that I imply GDE does not defy the recommend ATF-4 fluid. GDE has to follow the Laws of Natural Physics as do all other aftermarket manufactures and the rest of us.
I do get very sick of the back handed implications that other Tunes and components other than GDEs or Chrysler genuine parts cause problems that the Tunes or Components do not cause. How clear can I make it that the incorrect fluid will cause the shudder problem if everything else is OK. Independent repair shops do put in generic universal fluid and cause problems with 545RFE transmissions, it is well documented! Chrysler will not warranty failures caused by using the incorrect transmission fluid, but some one takes their 545RFE to some independent shop who uses some universal fluid and they blame the Aftermarket manufacturer, not the bone head that dumped in the wrong fluid.
If I have trashed anyone it is the independents who dump in the wrong fluid and cause the problem, not GDE or any other aftermarket supplier.

X2 with Warp, I did not see no trashing, he just said Keith would not recommend the wrong fluid. Geez, alot of people misreading things here lately. I have been following this thread, and I think fluid is a good place to start. I am just glad some one has an answer for the OP, because no one else has given any input to this problem except for Warp.

Having experienced a "rocking horse" sensation at around 58 mph within the first 1/2 mile the day I bought my 06 new I'm convinced that at least my problem was the springs in the torque converter bottoming out then bouncing back  It's clear to me that this action then would cause the lockup tc clutch to slip and cause what would be discribed as a "shudder"
Most of us know the wrong fluid will make this worse. Some have had success with Dr Tranny. But I believe and the Euro TC seems to prove the root problem is with the springs :jester: So unless replacement TC's also have stiffer springs you are fighting a uphill battle. What springs does "Precision Industries" use? If/when I were going to spend the money to have the TC changed it would be with one that has a proven track record :jester:

I once owned a 1991 VW EchoDiesel that distroyed said springs on the clutch plate like clockwork every 50k miles. The car went half a million miles before I lost tract of it without the head ever being pulled but the clutch was another matter :banghead:

This is not meant to bash anyone and is only my two cents worth after following tc shudder problems on this board since June 06. (That's 4 years)

There are two ways being commonly used to dampen out the Four Cylinder Diesel Vibrations, One is stiffer springs used in the J8/Euro and a front cover made from steel billet. Springs dampening out the vibrations by yielding instead of making the drive line shudder, Torque converters from Precision Industries, SunCoast, and others who use the Sonnax front billet cover have additional flywheel mass which dampening with good old fashion inertia. More flywheel mass, lighter weaker springs can be used, if the builder wants to, but as a rule they don't. Springs are cheaper than a front billet cover so OEMs use springs to do most of the job. People like me who buy aftermarket converters want some extra performance and are willing to spend more.
In the end, as long as it works, the owner is happy.

One suggestion on the shudder was to try driving in all wheel drive. I did this and it reduced the shudder slightly but it's still there. Actually seems to be the same as it was with the OEM TC.

I'll check into the fluid that the trans shop used.

Anyone tried the Euro TC with the InMotion tune?
