I have had a "relatively" good experience with my CRD and have yet to pay out any money for repairs beyond normal maint (except for a set of tires to replace the dangerous OEMs). In fact, I get my oil changes for free as part of the deal I cut when I bought it new. I had an EGR replacement at 10k under regular warranty and another one last year at about 68k without cost under the extended warranty. Last week, a CEL came up and I took it into the dealer today to check as I was due for oil change and annual state inspection (also free). The service writer told me that the CEL (dont know what the code displayed) showed that my ECU was fried (although the jeep seemed to be running fine) and that my EGR also needed replacement. She quoted about $ 800 for the ECU and about $500 for the EGR (with installation). She then proceeded to tell me that the ECU was covered because the code showed it was an emissions fault which is covered under a Federal 80k mile warranty so I would only have to pay for the EGR. I told her to look up my record as the EGR was replaced last June and I believed it was covered under the Chrysler 12 mo/12 mile parts warranty. She agreed that they were changing out the same parts and that there would be no charge. So, a $ 1,300 dollar repair is free, Sometimes, and only sometimes, the dealer can actually help you out (I would never have thought to ask about any Federal warranty).

Very nice. Now time to ship that brand new ECU off to GDE and never worry about EGR issues ever again |

The saga continues: I got a call today that the repairs had been made and the car was ready. The Jeep started up fine, but sounded "louder" to me. I left the dealership and drove at least 50 yards when the CEL came back on. I drove back to the dealership and left it with the service manager who was apologetic, but clueless. I suspect the "real" issue is a blown hose, but who am I to tell the "experts" what to look for. |

Final Report (I hope) Picked up the Jeep today. The service writer told me that the new CEL was a different EGR code and different from the first CEL (Is that even possible?).. She said that the techs could not figure out how to fix the new code and contacted Detroit for help. Chrysler central told the techs to clean the MAF sensor and the throttle boost sensor (which is a part I never heard of). The car now runs fine, infact it seems to run better than when I brought it in. It has alot more pep and gear changes are "crisper". Maybe the new ECU does not have the F37 built in? I dont know if it was the ecu change, new egr, or the cleaning, but it seems like they have actually fixed it. |

Did they update your ECU with new software? I would like to know where this "throttle boost sensor" is located? |
