What are my best options for an inline fuel pump. I don't want to do the Fuel tank pump even though it may be the best.....just too much trouble.

Thanks for any input.

You know the best answer and it's not much more work then adding one back by the tank. Wiring took me more time then actually dropping the tank.

Make sure the line coming out of the tank is OK and does not have an air leak. My Carter is still working fine and it beats having to pump by hand when I change the filter.

The original: A Facet 40109 in the engine bay. That's if you can find one. They have similar cube pumps at any auto parts store. Just make sure you're not going over 10psi.

Whew, that engine bay is already pretty full. Seems like an in-line near the tank might be easier. However, I have'nt crawled under yet to eye ball the situation. Just seems like it would simple.

They are tiny. It's a 2x2" cube that sits behind the battery, spliced into the fuel line with about 18" extra rubber line. Power is right there and it's out of the rain. Plus you don't have to spend any time on your back. I like turning the key on and hearing the pump flutter on while waiting for the glow plugs.

I installed one of these in the engine compartment.

I secured it to the existing holes on the side of the pan that the battery sits in, with a metal L-bracket I picked up from the home depot. All the pre-drilled holes aligned perfectly.

I connected the (+) wire (red wire) to the fuel pump relay in the fuse box located close to the battery and the ground to the battery ground.

No cutting, no drilling, just parts and 45 minute labor.

Bill of materials:

1. One - Facet Posi-Flow lift pump from NAPA auto parts.
2. One - 4.5" x 4.5" predrilled, metal, chrome plated, Flat L - Bracket from the Home Depot.
3. Four - 1/4" nuts and bolts with lock washers.
4. One - 3'-0" piece of black fuel line hose from NAPA (cut to desired lenght)
5. Four - 3/8" hose clamps.
6. One - 1'-0" long 12ga red electrical wire. (used as an extention to the fuse box)
7. Electrical tape for automobile use.

Can't be simpler than that.

Total cost $67.00, give or take a few.

Runs perfectly - the throttle is always ready to the touch without any lack of power or air in the fuel line.

I just finished in-tank pump install #2. Did the wife's last year. Works great. One of my wife's good friends picked up a used 05 CRD so I just did hers with the Stanadyne FM100 filter and head. Used the pump out of my brother's 06 Cummins, so free pump. Just had to buy the filter head and accessories and do the wiring. I had the Facet unit on my wife's truck before the in-tank unit. I didn't like the noise of the Facet and the plumbing and wiring is much cleaner with the in-tank unit. My Facet also had only about 3-4 psi at idle and I worried about what it was at WOT. In-tank pump is 8-9 at idle. I still have the Facet pump if you are interested.
