| Post subject: | Performance Fuel Pump.... |
Spoke with keith at GDE, i asked him about a performance fuel pump(in line) to help feed the "lift pump". He said that would be fine but he didnt advise that it would be a necessity, So i asked about a Holley style like a red, black, or blue. He said the problem is....Some of these performace style pump cause too much pressure on the CP3 leading to pre-mature failure. He said I shouldnt need more than 3-4 psi of pressure, but my crd feels like it is starving as it is and it dosnt even have a tune yet. I have seen guys posting that they run the Holley pumps that produce around 7 to 10 psi. I heard 10 psi should be the max on this system. But they still run them with no issues. The smaller cube style pumps seem weak to me. What do you guys think. I would think with the hot tune a Holley Red that produces 7psi would work fine. But there again i dont know....Lets hear it. And btw if you want to get techy, pumps produce flow not pressure but we all know what we mean. Also should i just mount it around the lines off the tank, or close to the engine? i would think near the tank. the Holley might be a little too big for under the hood with a weight of 2.5 puonds. |

I ran a Holley blue for a month or so, but it was so noisy that I replaced it with a Duramax lift pump from airtex. It is a shutle pump style and is very quiet but provides just the right flow and pressure. I have had it mounted under the rail for over 80k miles now and it shows no signs of quiting. The Duramax has the same CP3 which we have in the CRD and so the match is perfect. The cost is ~$50 and only takes a half an hour to install. |

Well, my bud works at adv. auto and got me a Mr gasket in line Micro style pump that is made for diesel fuel. Its even green ...the working psi can be adjusted from 4 to 7 psi......Im not sure where to mount it. I could mount it near the rear of the fuel tank or near the engine bay. what do you guys think? Iv seen so many of you doing different things......What would be the best location?

The best place to mount it is by the tank, but you have to pull the rear seats and extend wires to get the right power. The next best place is in the engine bay spliced in ahead of the fuel filter. |

Just got it wired.....go me. took only a few min's to pull up the carpet, find the blue and orange wire and tap into it for power. Now......for the pluming of the fuel hose. Fist off out of the 3 metal lines under the truck, it is the bigest line right? it looks to be around 3/8'' size and is located on top of the 2 other smaller lines..is this correct? If this is the one how should i go about cut'n the thing to ensure that i dont get any metal shavings in the lines? I have the pump mounted and wired already in a location that is low, and some what close to the tank, and actually runs parallel with the 3 lines right next to them. So my final question is Which line do i cut, and how do i go about cut'n it in a safe manner? I'll post picks when i get it finished! |

As we can see in this Tech thread here...... viewtopic.php?f=98&t=39362 That he has removed the metal line from the plastic fit'n thing. However i cant tell, but did he remove the metal line all the way to the engine/lift pump area? or just cut the metal line a little bit past the new pump? Also, there are 2 of these lines, like in the picks.....which one is it, and how do it tell which one it is? Im posting this to go with my post above. |

So before i go any further.....The box dosnt say it but the website says this pump is used to push fuel, not pull it.....So im thinking this pump is for transfer only.... And to boot, all the gas style pumps have VERY BAD ratings....... So should i even bother with this one? all i have to do is loosen the 2 bolts and take it back.... Or should I try it anyways? Im just worried that this pump is for transfer only, but i also dont want to take a chance on it crap'n out on me....

you might want to go back and read some threads on what an inline LP is for. It is not used for sucking fuel from the tank, it is used to pressurize the fuel line to the injection pump. If the pump is mounted down on the frame rail, it is not sucking, it is gravity fed directly from the tank. |

Right, i understand that.....Thats what i was say'n but i think it came out wrong.....What i was say'n was that i think this pump is only used to move fuel from a tank back to a tank. This pump should still work.....b/c its gravity fed the fuel will move to this pump, where its pressurized while the lift pump pulls it......so the lift pump would be used like a regulator now. right? here is is a link to the pump. not really any reviews on the diesel version but the gasser ones seem to really suck.....i got it for cost($30)vs $60, and it has a 90 day return on it. http://www.mr-gasket.com/ProductDetails ... election=1 |

If its making 4+ psi and 30+ gph then it's about perfect. That's what the Facet 40109 does and it works great. |

Make sure that the inline pump you install, is a Flow through lift pump. A flow through lift pump will allow fuel to flow through the lines in case the pump should ever fail. If the pump fails (some pumps are rated to 50,000 hrs), fuel flow will not be impeded and the engine will continue to run, giving you time to replace the pump if you should so decide. I say, if you should so decide because our vehicles run without a lift pump straight out of the factory. |
