I'm in the process of removing the Cat filter mod from my CRD. I kept all the factory parts I thought. When replacing the threaded adapter I notice the Cat adapter has an o-ring but my old factory one did not. Is that right or do I need to fined a replacement o-ring?

Are you talking about the O ring that comes on OEM filters and seals the filter against the head?

Yes, the stock filter comes with two o-rings, inner and outer, that seal against the stock filter head.

If you have an Old style head - you'll solve a lot of problems now if you get the new style (it'll come assembled with a filter.

Might help with the heater although that's debateable. Won't help with air if the air is coming from somewhere else.

I need to be more clear. The Cat setup had an o-ring around the threaded piece in the middle. My stock filter has a plastic piece that butts against the shoulder of the threaded piece but no o-ring at the base of the shoulder that seals between the head and upper part of the shoulder like the Cat piece did.

I think there is supposed to be an O-ring there... one on the outer ring, one on the inner threads. Maybe a picture would help?

unless I misplaced it since I tossed the rest of these parts in a box 6 months ago, there is no o-ring between the threaded pipe and the heater puck. And while looking at it, you wouldn't need one. anything leaking past there would just be from the inlet after the plunger, and just mix with the unfiltered fuel on the other side of the heater (it would just be going around the heater only)

The ring pictured is the inner one from the filter.

By the way, the plunger bit holds about 2 oz of diesel, just waiting for you to screw around with it at you desk after taking pictures and spits it out when you press down on the plunger while holding it over your keyboard. :jester:

I don't believe there was originally a ring where your talking about. At one time years ago it was suspected there should have been and that adding one would help the air in fuel problem. For me at least it did not help.

Thanks everyone. Pretty sure there's no o-ring. After I looked at it again I agree with Kaspin, it wouldn't be sealing anything important anyway. Thanks all.
