Hey Guys Has anybody had problems with their window not wanting to wind up and down. My right rear window decided to wind down on its own and would not wind back up when i pulled the switch. I can hear the motor working in the door but obviously something has broken or become detached inside the door. I think i need to remove the doorpanel ( how do i go about this ) as i noticed a orange cabel appearing at the top of the waterseal. I pulled on the cable and one end is still attached inside the door and the other end is sticking out the waterseal. What is this cable for and how do i go about repairing if possible. Any help would be appreciated thanks. |

This is a common problem with the KJ windows. There is a thread somewhere on a aftermarket fix for what as I recall is a plastic clip that breaks. Also there was an update to the windows, that they did on my front ones undeer warranty, that basically replaced everything related including the glass and seals. |

The Steiger Kit is what you want; I just replaced the rear left on my CRD and all four windows on my father's CRD.... Joy... There will be instructions in the kit on the proper procedure for removing the door and installing the new part. Basically, to remove to door, you will need to take out two screws and use a putty knife/flat head screwdriver to pry out the door clips. It will sound like you are breaking your door - don't worry, that is perfectly normal. One recommendation: be careful when handling the metal guide rail, as the edges are very very very sharp. I destroyed my hands the first time I tried to do this fix. Oh, and the cable you see is the cable that pushes the window up and down, as controlled by the window motor. What is broken is the little plastic clip that fits on the end of the cable and holds the window in place. |

I think the factory replacement includes a new window. |

Like I said, the Steiger kit will provide instructions. If you purchase the Steiger kit, you get a metal replacement part that will never break. Your other option is to replace the entire regulator assembly, for a little extra $$$, but you run the risk of it breaking again. As far as I know, you cannot just purchase another plastic clip. Personally, I'd rather have the piece that will not break again, regardless. |

Shipping that Steiger kit to South Africa would be expensive, but worth it. Your window is mounted to a plastic carrier that rides up and down on a metal bracket. There is a long spiral of wire (worm gear) that runs through the motor, and is attached to the carrier in a series of rings to move it up and down on the bracket. Take a look at this picture: That's the Steiger, kit, which is metal, but it gives you a good idea. What happens is that on the stock carrier, the plastic rings break off. The motor still works, everything else is still intact - just 6 or 7 little rings of plastic broke off. The Steiger kit replaces only the carrier that the window mounts to, and it will not break. Install takes about an hour and a half if you are handy, and can be done with hand tools. steiger's website is www.steigerperformance.com . Go to the website and check out the instruction page if you're concerned about the install. Jon's instructions are VERY detailed. |

I'll wait until I hear what the dealer quotes me tomorrow then perhaps mailing a kit from the states would be cheaper unless the scrapyard can help. Is it possible to somehow lift the window up manually if i remove the door panel and wedge it closed until i sort the problem out? |

The dealer quoted me $250, since they said they could not just replace the broken part - they had to replace the entire assembly. So yes, it was all about the Benjamins - at least for me. |
