I just bought a TCM from a CRD that was wrecked before the F37 update. Is changing the TCM as simple as unhooking the battery and swapping the TCM? Open to hints from folks who have done this.

Did you get it for less than the $250 Flash?

Make sure you bolt it in place, I wrapped my Experimental TCM in some rags since I wanted to be able to swap it back in a hurry if needed and it bounced around and unplugged a harnes connector that was on the AC circuit

Pop the easy to release stuff out of the way for the turbo boost controls, that way you will still have blood left to donate to the Red Cross instead of your CRD if you want to

You will need to teach the TCM to adapt to your driving so you won't have any excitement weird bangs or harsh shifts. You can pay a Trans Shop to do a Quick learn, pay the dealer who may screw it up with an F-37 flash, or you can do the slow learn your self, your choice. If you want to play it safe and don't want to gamble, with the engine running, put the selector in reverse and leave it there for 30 seconds (backing up counts), then put the selector in 1st and drive slow for 30 seconds, then 2nd and drive slow for 30 seconds, then D and drive slow for 30 seconds. Then do some easy around town driving. Next do some hard acceleration and run it through the gears. After that the TCM will learn to adapt to your driving. Mine kept learning for about 750 miles, others have taken at least 450 miles, be patient, the TCM will learn.

I found it locally for $75 plus tax, I did not argue, just reached for my wallet. The only real advantage noticed is locking in 5th at @57-58 MPH. It seems to be able to climb most grades @56 MPH in 5th instead of 57MPH before. 4th lockup still seems to be almost useless, unlocking below 50 and down shifting on steeper hills below 55. I will talk to a friend at transmission shop about a quick learn.

Like he said, it isn't needed. Could just drive it like someone did after day one off of the lot. You shouldn't notice anything. Just better fuel economy as time goes on.

X2 on don't shell out the cash for the Quick Learn that is nothing more than a way to speed up the teaching routine by setting the TCM to some Desk Jockey Default kinda close values. Any of us with kids know that teaching a kid is a long on going process, the TCM slow learn just takes less time. Think of the Quick Learn like being able to instantaneously giving a 3 month old baby the balance of a 1 year old. You would have a kid who could stand, but the kid would need to learn to walk. The slow learn is like holding your kids hands and letting the kid support their weight with their legs and bounce up and down. Like the kid with balance ability who needs to learn to walk, you need to drive to teach your TCM to shift to the way you drive. I figured this out by reading a lot of posts from a Dakota forum where they swapped Grand Cherokee 5.7L Hemi 545RFE TCMs into their Dakota 5.7L 545RFE where the 5th was disabled. There was no Quick Learn for the swap, but the slow learn worked. If you want to be adventuresome and you can find a GC 5.7L Hemi 545RFE TCM for the same price, drop it in and do the slow learn, you may like it or hate it after you go the 500+ miles. Expect your Pre-F37 TCM to take 500+ Miles to learn.
If you go for the Transgo shift kit, you will crisped up the shifts a bit, but you will need to do the same slow learn routine I mention above. Still expect 500+miles for it to learn.
$75 great price, a lot better than the $500 some were charging on eBay.
Since the Pre-F37 flash goes for $250, so no one should pay any more for a used TCM.
