So I just had a OME 1.5" spring lift installed at a 4 wheel parts shop near me. When I came to pick up the Jeep the invoice noted that there was a CEL. Hmm, that's odd. Wasn't on when I came in. I have a GDE tune so no ORM. Counter guy goes into the back and comes out to say that they had to pull the battery to get the left strut in. That it's in a "learning" mode and I could have the CEL cleared or it would go away after awhile. Skeptical, I hopped in. I had gone less than a block when I noticed that the turbo was whining REALLY loudly with any kind of pedal. I pulled over and checked the intercooler hoses and both seemed fine (installed Samco's last year sometime). The engine was too hot to get near the turbo. I couldn't hear any noise at idle put if I gave it any pedal you could hear it. So I head back to the shop to tell them that it didn't sound right. I ask if they have a diesel tech who could listen to it (I assumed since they sell tuners and such) but they said no. Counter guy says, "Unplugging the battery will do that. My Volkswagen did the same thing and I had them clear the code and it worked fine." I know there's an Autozone by my house who could read and clear the code so I tell them I'll do that and check back in the morning and off I went. It seemed to have power (at least not the super loss of power I've seen described here when a hose blows), mileage was fine (30+ on the EVIC @ 70mph and AC on), and it handled well. I stopped by Autozone only to find out they aren't allowed to read and clear codes any more. So any thoughts? Could just R&Ring the battery cause this? Will it go away after a few start/stops? Could just the lift be allowing more "noise" out from underneath? I'm afraid they bashed something on the turbo and it's going to be expensive. Thanks for any thoughts. |

I would remove the intake ducting and check every inch of it. Also make sure you have an air filter. Excessive turbo noise is most commonly the effect of a boost side leak, however since you notice no smoke or a lack of power, and a cel, you may have a MAJOR intake leak, such as having no air filter, or a improperly connected turbo inlet to air cleaner ducting. Also check the vacuum control modulator and vacuum control solenoid. Also consider buying a cheap code reader, they can be found for under 50 bucks on amazon and other sites. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9125-Poc ... =8-1-fkmr0 and it works well. There are many others. Disconnecting the battery should NOT cause a cel. |

They probably messed up something on the RIGHT side. You have to remove some turbo plumbing, etc. and other things to get to the right side strut bolts. They may have caused a problem in that area and/or not put the intake tube firmly onto the turbo housing. |

You all are geniuses. Tore into it and sure enough the hose from the airbox was only partially connected to the turbo housing. Installed it properly, put it all back together, and now it sounds like it always has! CEL is still there but IIRC from the ORM threads that it will go away after a few start/stops? This list rocks!

awsome glad you were able to fix it and shame on that shop for not putting it back togther right and not checking the work they had done when you brought it back. 4-5 start/stop cycles will put out the cel if you solved the issue.... Thats what I have seen with the ORM |

Did you call the shop and tell them what you found? Reputable companies like to know when they screw up. At least those who claim to care about customer satisfaction do. |
