Im going to upgrade to a suncoast w/ the stronger damp springs. I want to do all the trans work at one time. What all can i do with out going into/fully building the trans? Will a trans go shift kit work well with the suncoast? will the Sonnax line press booster work with the TC and shift kit? And also im confused about the shift kit install, some guys say you want to do this, do that, dont do this, dont do that. I want to know what will work togather with no issues and help to make this trans strong and if all these(shift kit,TC, and sonnax part) will work togather, thanks |

I went to a very reputable local transmission repair firm. The guy there said get the shift kit because it replaces parts that can stand upgrading. Coastal is who I got the T/C from, they also sold me the shift kit. The transmission guy asked me to call the shift kit manufacturer to get a question answered. The way I understand it is the TCU calls the shifts, the transmission does the heavy lifting. You want the best right? Why skimp on an important upgradeable part? Your money, your ride, you decide. |

shift kit is a waste of money. Save it for the TC & Installation. The TCU will override the shift kit. |

I also read that in order for the shift kit to work properly you have to splice some wires or something. So whats the deal? |

I never said I was gonna skimp bra. I get my parts for cost anyways so Im not worried about that. And I do all of my own instals. What give you the idea I would skimp? So back to my question.....shift kit, or no shift kit? |

After the TC update you should really be asking what transmission tune should I get Again because the TCM Rules At the present you have three choices. Put back to original pre F37 gotten through Sun coast More shifting features and tc lockup's from GDE Or leave the less then desirable Chrysler "save the TC" software Oh by the way make sure ONLY TC+4 fluid is used

Whats does GDE do? do they mod the TCU? i dont even know where its located on this crd. will i have to send in the TCU or can this be done at the smae time my hot tune is done? So the 2 options(pre37 and GDE tcu tune) require a reflash or what? Didnt Suncoast just crack the code like last week or something lol? Im not really not tryn to be a pain but it sounds like both involve some sort of re flash. What does Suncoast do? the same as GDE? please explain for me. |

I thought the shift kit was good the first time I drove it after installation. Then Mr. TCU figured it out and adjusted. Bottom line is the electronics figured out it was trying to shift harder and adjusted appropriately, I'm not sure how/what it adjusted, but it did its thing. If/when I go down the path of replacing the TC, I will also get the new GDE TCU tune. I'm actually surprised mine hasn't crapped the bed yet with the towing I do. |

A new TC(suncoast w/ upgraded springs)+trans go shift kit+Deep Trans Pan+GDE TCU tune = a bad booty trans for a crd? obviously im not going inside or go billet shafts or extra clutches but what i have listed above should make for a nice trans? |

In a word, yes. You will lose some ground clearance with that pan though, if that's important to you. Go ahead and install the shift kit if you want, but I would skip installing the resistor. I took the resistor out of mine because it shifted really weird. |

ONe of the guys said something along the lines of the shift kit shouldnt be a problem(i would think it would work great with GDE's tune) however the line pressure booster(resistor) might casue too much psi thus resulting in short trans life. So I didnt see the TCU tune on their site. Anyone that has it know about how much it costs? or care to pm me with a price? thanks again guys! |

I strongly suggest just going with the "euro" TC and the GDE TCM tune (and NOTHING else, except, of course, the GDE HOT ECM tune). DOC |

I would 100% recommend the shift kit, without the resister. The sonnex line booster is also not required (same function as the transgo resister) Imho the valve body work is as easy as changing the filters. Follow the instructions. With the transgo shift kit, the shifts are firmer and quicker, and also somehow smoother. It no longer stumbled around. I used the resister for a year, and i can tell you it seemed better without it. Or better yet, try it yourself. |

Both ECM and TCM require a flash Remember any time you make a weak link stronger a new weak link will show up As for a deeper trans oil pan, GDE claims by keeping the tc locked more the fluid temperature is reduced ![]() Oh, I forgot to mention. the TCM is on the right fender well up by the fire wall and the ECM is on the left fender well by the firewall. Both possibly can be flashed with the hood closed through the obdii port that's on the lower dash area to the right steering columb .

"euro" TC because: 1. It is the only one that has been proven to be trouble free, so far, though the most miles anyone has on one in the US in our CRDs is about 15K. (Many more miles than that in Europe.) 2. It is now the "factory" replacement unit. So if you have a factory ESP like we do, it is covered for 7 years/100K, AND it does NOT void the trans warranty which can occur if you use an "aftermarket" TC. 3. Cost. (I bought mine from MPA for about $240.) 4. We have about 12K on ours so far with the GDE HOT and it has simply performed flawlessly with many dyno runs and lots of towing a 5K trailer. 5. We got Chrysler to pay for the install because we had a rear main seal leak which required the removal of the trans to repair. (I purposely held off on this repair for a couple of years until it became clear what seemed to be the best route to go with the TC.) Way too many people were having various problems with Suncoast for me to be comfortable. [The posts are all on this site to be searched.] Suncoast is now reportedly building their CRD TCs from a "euro" TC "base" so this may finally be the "solution" for them, but they are not proven yet with multiple actual customers, there is an initial huge cost difference and the potential voiding of the ESP made it a simple decision for us. (i.e. if our trans fails in 2 years, Jeep has to repair/replace it because only factory approved parts have been used and installed by a Jeep dealer. The dealer agreed to put in the new TC I had bought at that time at no charge since it was no extra work for them.) |

Problems with Suncoast and other Performance Converters have all been traced to BAD FRONT PUMPS AND WRONG FLUID Go ahead put the wrong fluid into your 545RFE with your Euro and see how it does or don't fix or replace a bad front pump and see how it works. Don't confuse opinion with the truth. The Euro converter is what the Stock Converter should have been from day one. VM recommended the bigger dampener springs for the CRD from day one. Bean Counter Engineering chose the weaker springs used in the original converter. |

First off how can you even compare a Full billet TC vs a Stock thin lighter weight with just spring upgrade? I mean Im sure its fine, hell GDE uses them, but you still cant compare apples to oranges. The suncoast is a whole diff TC IMO. And if you put the wrong fluid in your trans...well, your just asking for trouble. Also they said that they just finished up the oversized spings so they will be building them asap. I guess it might be worth the extra $300 considering the quality, warrenty, and the new upgrades to it. Hell, i spent almost $2500(full billet, custom stall, quad disk) on just my TC for my Cummins. But there again, if you want to go fast and make real power i guess you will spend the $$$ |

If you spent all that money on a t/c great. I did the pump, suncoast t/c and shift kit but the suncoast still shuddered. If all it was is some stiff springs and the new mopar is cheaper I will go mopar. I was not impressed with suncoast for the money and the shudder. The VM is also not the engine a Cummings is although we all wish it was. |
