Keep the ECM plugs clean, even though I am not a GDE fan, I hate reading sad posts where the tune does not work because a piece of crap gets between the ECM and the harness plug.

Second that, one member had alot of problems because his wires were chafed, and removing the ECM caused him alot of problems, at least it happened to him sooner then later, when he was away from home. So check that wiring for rubbing while you got it out.

Warp, what don't you like about the tune?

A very good piece of advise friend.
Thanks.

With all deference to GDE, the ECU is actually held on by 4 nuts. However, since I fairly frequently swap ECUs, I leave the bottom two nuts off. It is secured just fine with the top two and is WAY easier to remove when you don't have to deal with the bottom two. (This way, you don't have to deal with removing/replacing the mounting plate. The ECU comes out in less than a minute this way.) Another tip is to remove/replace the ECU when the wiring harness is nice and warm. It can be quite stiff and can make reinstallation difficult.

More good advise, thanks DOC.

How about some kind of silicone spray or electrical contact cleaner?
The sun is out now but it has been raining and damp.
The ECU is expected this afternoon.

The ECU just returned.
Going to install it and do some driving.
This might take a while, I have a few bucks, a full tank of fuel and some time to spend.

Keith,

Put 250 miles on it today. It has been up for 6 months. Rotated tires, inspection sticker, did some driving around town, then some ( * ) pushed into my lane, so I thought, Let there be smoke.
The back disappeared in crud, everyone else backed off in the cloud of pollution. I held the pedal down and was very happy with the acceleration, later before refilling I tried it again, no cloud.
It has been sitting almost 6 months. I like the tune. When I can keep the foot out of the loud mode it will be time to report the fuel mileage, not before. This is my toy and it is time for some fun.

Since I did not drive the Jeep for 6 months it is hard to compare with what it was before.
I have been driving a '09 Pontiac/Toyota Vibe. It is a little screamer that gets 30-35mpg.
Well the CRD hot tune makes the Jeep CRD comparable to the Vibe motor/chassis combo.
The handling is a very different story, 3,000 vs 5,000lbs about 2' higher in the air, road tires vs All Terrain..
The CRD has the POWER and shifting goes up so much quicker, of course to speed.
I will need to lower the lift and get some lower profile road tires to be able to properly slide in the corners.
22mpg so far and there is some smoke coming out the back on full throttle applications, just don't look back too long.
Just imagine what the new turbo would do.......And this baby can tow my Airstream!!!!

Lower it? Low profile tires?

BACK AWAY FROM THE CRACK PIPE! :banghead:

Funny Joe,
The lift and the 215 85 16's put it up in the air a bit.
With all the new Horse Power comes the speed and the need to use it.
Like the guy who slammed his car into a mountain with a Jet Propelled Take off Assist Motor, the only thing to say is, "Ease off on the Pedal Fellah."

Just another update.
The motor is smooth and it cruises like a dream. I think it diesel rattles more, but I like it, a lot.
I keep trying to get a steady stable tank of fuel for mpg but at about 3/4-1/2 tank I just want to feel the power. Or is it I want to blow the crud out of the chambers, dead spots and dust bunnies?
Then a while later, need just a little more, a little whine and some gear bumps, oh, what the heck, How long can you hold it to the floor.
I really need to compress those tall OME springs, those tires have a LOT of rubber left. At very high speed it is uncomfortable.
My son took it today, but I just had to go get it, switch back and go for a long ride.
A groovy chick car with a manly motor, a sweet tune and a decent tranny.
How long should I wait to do the transmission flash?

Just got back from a highway flogging, 23.5mpg with a/c.
My GPS says the odometer is within a mile in 115 miles, close enough.
I should take some of the lift down, this baby is quick and top heavy. Maybe just put more stuff in it.
Some of the mileage problem is my transmission fluid is not warming up quick enough.
The radiator probably warms up the tranny fluid quicker. I bypassed the radiator, put on a thermal bypass and a big truck tranny cooler. Time to do the tranny flash then re-evaluate the existing transmission cooling set-up.

Fuel mileage keeps going up.
Last tank was 24.7, this tank got 26.2mpg around town, must be because a/c is not being used much.
It still makes a little black cloud for tailgaters.

We just set a personal record in our GDE eco-tuned CRD. 392mi/12.6gal for 31.1mpg. From Gunnison to Fort Collins, all highway through the mountains. My best three tanks have been at high altitude now that I think of it.

Sweet, that is an accomplishment to be proud of.
Someday, when I learn to control my fuel foot, there is an achievable goal to shoot for.
But......I keep having these Hot Flashes, mash the pedal down, it just feels so good.

As I posted elsewhere, I drove my CRD a fair amount this summer--Frankenlift II and GDE Performance Tune--all above 5,000 feet in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. My highway mileage has hung right at 26-30 mpg consistently all summer. Even with some long off-road jaunts mixed in, I never got mileage less than 22-24 mpg on a tank of fuel. It proves that it's possible to get 25-30 mpg in a decently performing 4WD vehicle with an efficient diesel engine. Now, if the American auto manufacturers would actually start producing some for people in the US once again (the talked-about Duramax 4.5 V8,being one possible example).
