So today I took my son to McDonald's and got him some nuggets...we sat in the parking lot for about 5 or 10 minutes while we ate, then we pulled out and hit the road. I gave it some good throttle which I normally don't do...because there was a Challenger in front of us. Suddenly the CEL came on and the Jeep lost power. It was driveable...but had NO power and wouldn't hardly even downshift. I have gotten the key trick for retrieving codes to work before....but now I can't get it to work! How else can I retrieve the code? |

Got 'em. Codes are P039, and P531. Now I have to try and figure out what these mean on the CRD. |

Manual doesn't show either P0038 skips to P0045, and 3 P0530? no 531 FYI - when was the last fuel filter change? - when you run full throttle it uses max fuel - if there are any restrictions - it would monetarily 'run out' and kick into limp mode. |

Well, based on what I've been able to find... 039 has something to do with the heater circuit 531 has something to do with the A/C circuit out of range So it sounds like a HVAC relay, circuit, or sensor issue. Strange...very strange. What would a WOT acceleration have to do with the HVAC?? In any case.... the Jeep is running normal again now. So how do I reset the light? Do you NEED a code scanner in order to reset the light? |

Turbo bypass valve would make more sense. So I didn't think our turbos had a bypass valve? That's sort of like a wastegate for all intents and purposes, right? So maybe when I hit the throttle...the turbo built too much boost? |

How long since a filter change? Is the water sensor wire hooked up? |

fastRob wrote: How long since a filter change? Is the water sensor wire hooked up? Fuel filter? It's new...only had it for a few thousand miles. Water sensor is hooked up, yes. But what would that have to do with a Turbo Bypass Valve code? Admittedly, the turbo system on this CRD is slightly more complicated than most, and I need to study it more and learn more about how it works. I'm not sure exactly what has happened to throw this code. And I also really would like to know how to turn the light off. I don't have a code reader and can't afford to buy one right now. |

Just run by advanced auto and ask them to do it for you. They ussually have and code reader on had and should be able to get rid of your CEL. Best part of it all it is completely free |

What code reader did you use to obtain the P-codes? Those codes aren't part of the DTC matrix for the KJ. |

I ended up being able to get the codes by using the "key trick". The reason I couldn't get them at first is because the vehicle has to be shut off for a certain amount of time before it'll flash you the codes on the dash. The light ended up going off by itself. I ran the Jeep pretty hard a couple of times yesterday trying to reproduce the problem...and couldn't. Odd. |

Still driving it with no codes. The CEL never came back on. At this point, I will assume all is well and just ignore it. These Jeeps have a mind of their own.

Your not alone I got the same P0039 and I paid to replace the boost sensor ,clean turbo hoses just a month ago , I got no clue yet because a second CEL signal need all my atention............ a nice P0700 (General Transmission code) It's maybe the solenoid, but futher inspection need to be done.. I cross my fingers... PS: Please go to BK to feed your little one with chicken 'Nuggets' those from McD taste like they have been made from Clown sh...

Well it happened to me again! Only code is the P0039 this time. I'm going to e-mail Keith at GDE and see what's up. |

I believe that you may be experiencing the same condition I had, turbo overboost, Your turbo vanes are sticking. It took me a while to get rid of the code. I found a steep hill to put the peddle to the metal and flush the crud out. I kept doing it until the engine light went out. And more frequent Oil changes helped also. Find a steep hill and floor it. |

Not sure if this procedure is even possible on our turbos, but the information provided is interesting. http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articles/ ... -06-05.php |

Well, this time the CEL is apparently not going to clear itself like it did last time and GDE still hasn't responded. So now I've got to figure out how to clear this code. Any ideas? Guess I need to do a search. |

I saw a note on GDE site last week saying he would be away until the 15th (today) so give him a chance to reply, he is probably swamped with emails.... |

They drill and tap the turbo housing on the Dodge's. Squirt a de-coking fluid in them. It sometimes works. This is a common problem on ccv,egr fed turbos. |

Well, I called my local O'reilly and they said they would clear the codes for me for free. If the code comes back again I'm going to have to dig into this though and figure out what I can do to solve it. What the heck is a "turbo boost bypass valve" anyway? I thought we didn't have wastegates? |
