There are probably dozens of threads on stripped drain plugs somewhere on here.
Happened to me and many others.

What happens is that there is a washer on top of the drain plug and if the washer falls off before re-installing it,the drain plug goes too deep and strips the thread.
Best thing you can do is get the fumoto and hope it goes on with no problem.
Thought mine was a gonner.Bought a tap to put the fumoto on,but ended up not needing it.

BTW,don't ask what thread size the pan is,for you might start a war(has happened before). :jester:

Lots of owners have stripped their pans. Pan is aluminum so a little too much torque will do it. All those ham handed quick lube tech's can't help but over tighten them.

The thread is some B@$tard British straight pipe thread ( 3/8"? X ~19TPI) that is close to 5/8" X 18 but not exactly.
As a last resort, figure out what US pipe thread is a little bigger (like 1/2" NPT), tap it out and using a steel reducer bushing, clean the mating surfaces with acetone and use JB Weld to seal it.
Then use a plug or valve to finish the job.
Lots of ways that work to do it right, replacing the pan is the dumbest option unless you can get if free under an extended warranty sold by the dealer when you bough the CRD.

I ordered 3 fumoto valves, for the next oil changes, 2 for CRD's and 1 Sprinter.

My drain plug has been missing that washer since I've had it and I've not had any problems with
the threads. What I do at every oil change is thoroughly clean the plug, coat the threads with
Teflon paste, and install the plug without applying too much torque.
So far it has worked for me.

The idiot who stripped mine out tried to rethread it to 3/4" x 16.....but in the process of doing so they did not keep the tap at a perfect 90 degree angle to the pan. The result is that the new plug screwed in at a slight angle, which prevented the washer from ever sealing off properly.

So... I ordered a Fumoto for a CAT diesel (they use the 3/4" x 16 size), and then I found a rubber PCV valve grommet that would slide over the threads from the local O'reilly. Then I shaved the grommet down to make a thick rubber "washer" out of it. This has allowed me to seal my leak off and it's been working for several thousand miles now.

HOPEFULLY the rubber will hold up and never leak...so that with the Fumoto, I'll never have to remove the thing again to do oil changes.

Does your drain plug require a allen wrench? If not it's already been replaced.
