I know this horse has been beaten, dugup, slapped around and buried again, but here is my 2 cents. I installed a $50 Airtex lift pump in line, near the left rear wheel well. Why? Well, it seemed that after I changed the fuel filter, she was louder on idle and did not have the umph before the total fluid change (could have been my imagination). The fuel filter probably needed to be bled a little more but after reading that most of you were satisfied by your lift pump install, I thought I would try it for the bleeding ease and maybe the other benies.

It was easy to install. Took me an hour or so. Plenty of how to out there. Again, I smell like fuel because of the siphon. But...

Once she was bled, which took longer than I thought it would (4 key cycles), she started and sounded rather normal (loundish clakity diieselly). But she smoothed on out and my did she quiet down! My son even remarked that it sounded like a different car. The clack was gone and she was so smooth!

The car has been problem free in the few weeks I have owned it. I love almost everything and it is a pleasure to drive. The only complaint is the slight delay (not a hesitation) when mashing on the throttle to cut across traffic. You do have to time it somewhat.

I will update you on how it drives. Mike

PS: We want to know, how do you get the odor out of your clothes?

Crack the bleeder valve and let out the rest of the air. Sometimes some residual air is in the filter and works its way to the top. When it is bleed out the primer bulb will push very hard after you have cleared out all the air with a lift pump. Should run a lot better.

reka12: the delay you describe is known as turbo lag. The CRD has very little lag compared to some other turbocharged vehicles, but it is still there. Several washes will remove the diesel smell.

My delay (not turbo lag, there is a difference) was seemingly eliminated when I got my GDE tune. Don't know how they did that but it jumps now. Now it might jump (no hesitation) but that is not to say that I will be taking on any GT's either :SOMBRERO:

Thanks for the info on the lag. I am interested in the Ecotune but can't justify the $450 at the moment. I bought my CRD used a couple of weeks ago. It was owned by an older gentleman and other than putting a tow receiver on the front, kept it all stock. I don't even think the TCM was flashed as the dealer had no record of it being done (other recalls and TSBs were noted).

Since towing the boat is the immediate priority, I have ordered load leveler air bags (don't flame me, I don't aggresively off-road), new springs and shocks and a hitch extender. The GDE stuff will have to wait.

I like the smell of the fuel too. My wife does not think the washer should smell like it though!

The other day for kicks and grins, I wanted to know that after installing the lift pump what would happen if I opened the bleeder valve while idling. Well, fuel exited the bleeder when I cracked it open. Nothing like being able to bleed on the fly!
