2005 CRD, when I accelerate it quits running just like the fuel was cut off. I have had it to do this several times while passing another car. I can turn the switch off and then back on and it starts running again immediately. I don't have a code reader. Any ideas? |

Well, if you have a CEL then it would be helpful to us if you could have the codes pulled. Autozone can do this free of charge. Otherwise sounds like maybe air in the fuel. |

It's not air in the fuel. It is something electrical, maybe a sensor. |

i kind of had this problem twice before on my old car, not the Liberty and idk how it applies to a CRD. The first time was a dirty MAF and then a few years later it was the fuel pump wouldnt maintain pressure intermittently and shutting down/restarting fixed it for days at a time. |

Dirty fuel filter, add a lift pump and the problem goes away. |

Yes, change your fuel filter first before you go looking for electrical gremlins. If the engine dies under high power demand, that's a classic sign of a dirty fuel filter. |

Mine was doing this when i would put my foot in it for awhile there to. First it would loose alot of power then would go into a rough idle before cutting off. And if was my fuel filter when was the last time you changed it. And believe me you don't want to go hunting electrical problems in the CRD. |

I have had this happen several times over the years - and every time it was a clogged Fuel Filter. |

When you travel all over the US, sometimes you don't have much choice but to buy where the supply looks to be best. I try to stick with major Truck Stops, but even this doesn't always work. |

Musta just got lucky. |

I would check for air in the fuel at the filter head. also check for leaking around the fuel heater plug. That is a comman place to get air in if its not air-tight. It could be a clogged filter, these pull fuel by suction if you never installed a lift pump and that method to me seems prone to issues it the flow is blocked. I try to get good fuel but don't have many choices here..... Just Hess, Royal Farms, Rutters and Sheetz are the only brands. Most of those but Hess is are regonal chains THe PA turnpike stations are Sunoco and have bio blends up to 5% in the pumps. Half the Filling stations don't have Diesel fuel at all, still I can always seem to find it. |

Three Clogged Filters, one cracked Filter Head. Just bought the new style Filter Head - Installing it this weekend. I guess with 157K miles, I can't complain. |

My filter is new and a lift pump is installed. When it dies, it is sudden, just like turning the ignition switch off. I can cycle the ignition switch off and back on and it is immediately running again. Also, very hard to start when hot but starts ok when cold. |

Maybe you have a loose connection that is causing your pump to cut out intermittently? Or maybe there is a loose connection at some other connector? While idling, jiggle wires and sensor connections and see what happens. |

What kind of lift pump do you have? Needs to be a pass through style if it fails? My Jeep does the same exact thing and a new filter always cured it. Weird part is that it would not restart unless you turn the key to off then restart. It would then run fine for days after that. |
