P0039 is a little funky. Another member had this same code and found that it did not reappear after he reset it. It is not listed as a DTC for the CRD....

P0700-TCM DTC - Sounds to me like there is something wrong with your TCM or the wiring harness. You can follow these instructions (http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... st/91.page) to find the harness and make sure that everything is secured properly.

personally - I'd doublecheck everything the dealership touched
(there are some individuals I trust at dealerships - but never the entire shop)

It's not an SUV, it's a Jeep.

Thank's for your com guys, ho and sorry , it's a Jeep thing! Not a SUV :)

I get work today and the Jeep don't shift in overdrive on HW, he stay in 4th gear at 60mph (2500rpm)
When I get back trying to avoid HW I decide to try again for a 5 miles portion the Jeep shift normaly in 5th gear.
Now he just shift a bit crisp (hard) between 2nd and 3rd gear but not every time...

I got no clue so tomorrow me and a friend will double check everything arround the TC and the trans, reset those codes and pray!

God help us!

PS: I check the trans oil today (done 12,000 miles since service by the dealer) look perfect no sign of overheating.

Thanks to correct me Joe! I edit my profile a bit... Now I do futher test today with a friend and I got 2 different suggestions from 2 Chrysler service managers about my P0700! My friend use is $4000 Scan tool (He owns a general mechanic garage) get the codes and speak with one of the manager on the phone, this guy suggest we replace the electronic solenoid pack controlling de valve body ($495) G... There is 2 models available, white or black connector?

Well I decide to call the service manager of the dealer where the Jeep was repair and tell them about my issue with my trans, he tell me they change 2 sensor very often on Dodge ram 1500 for the same problem and they got the same trans. Those sensor cost arround $100 he said, there is only 2 kind of sensor in the parts catalog: 2X transmission input speed sensor (4799 D61AB) and the Transducer pressure sensor (4799 758).

I don’t know who is right but I will not paid $495 for a solenoid pack! Online store in USA sold them $295 and the speed sensor is $30 each! If you know a good place to order online using USPS to ship in Canada please tell me, I still have to order the GDE tune and programmer, a Provent 200 and euro TC to finally get a functional and reliable Jeep like it’s suppose to be out of the assembly line…

Just came from my local « Scamler » Dealer and the manager is always polite and very friendly, It’s the diesel “specialist” moron I can agree with , he can identify Diesel fuel! Yep he tell me it’s suppose to be yellow like this…Showing me a simple from Shell, G….I tell him to get back to school in his case it’s not a luxury….Finally I manage to speak with the old dog working on Cumming and Mercedes Diesel, yep he know nothing about VM Motori but he is no rookie and the 5-45RFE tranny have no secret for him. He scan my truck and pick 4 “stored” code not in action just in memory, then he tell me my problem are all relate to the“ Overheat sensor” and ask me what happen the day the CEL show up. (P0093/P0700/P0218/P0714A)

I was jam in heavy traffic, my A/C running at max because outside temp was around 98F then the CEL “popup” I remember the temp gauge getting around 226F.

Image

He clears the code test road, get back and suggests me to install a transmission cooler. I agree and thank him “Big time”, the manager give me back my key and let me live “No Charge”… After a total of $1600 bills they play low profile on that one…Now my question is:
Is it possible this truck can’t be use in hot weather??? No way!
What in the hell happen? The original torque generates too much heat in idle? Maybe…
Somme CRD got overheating problem so I will install an auxiliary Trans cooler and change my antifreeze before I live with my camping trailer next week.
If you got an address where I can pick up a new EURO TC for a good price (under $300) around NY, Vermont, New Hampshire…Well east coast! Just let me know please! Thank you

Wow,
You had some bad days, welcome here, not lost anymore.
I would disconnect the MAF on the air filter, shuts off exhaust gas recirculator which causes high engine temps, also warms up engine.

The radiator is very big for motor, something does not seem to be working, maybe clutch fan?
Others have had fan go bad and motor over heats in stop and go driving.
I think there are tests for fan so it will not cost you money just some time.
Maybe you need a new thermostat?
Is t/c shuddering bad?

So the vehicle is running good now and no CEL?

Your engine was nowhere near overheating at 226 F, this is getting close to the range when the mechanical fan should start to engage. In hindsight for Chrysler, the gauge should just sit in the middle safe zone until coolant temps get in the 237+ F range. It takes time for the viscous fan to work, the AC will automatically shut off in extreme cases, and the engine has built in overheat protection to cut fuel and heat load.

The trans overheating could be possible without engine temp issues if pulling a load with the transmission TC not in lock-up. Can you tell if the KJ is going into lock-up correctly?

Thank you FastRob for your suggestion but I already order the GDE ECO tune with the programmer! No need to unplug the MAF I can wait a bit. Next on the list the Provent 200 mod and finally the Euro TC….The original TC don’t shuddering but better be safe than sorry so I will purchase the EURO TC and all the upgrade needs to get a reliable Tranny
(Don’t know yet what I needs but I tow only 3000 Pds so suggestion are very welcome :) )

Mr. GDE
The Jeep run find, (51,000 Miles on the counter ) my gauge normally stay just a bit under the center (210F?) but when the CEL happen it was exactly where I say it was! The gauge is maybe not accurate but it’s a bit scary jam in heavy traffic! My speed was 0-10Mph in first gear all the time with nothing behind (Tow) and no the tranny didn’t slip, he keep lock up pretty well in overdrive with my camping trailer behind on flat HW But if there is too much altitude change I keep my tranny in 4th speed /1900-2000rpm (AKA just before shifting in 5th/2200rpm) If I sense my TC try to downshift I use the O/D knob to back shift in 3th. My antifreeze is in the normal maintenance schedule of is 5 years life so I change it and keep an eye on the temp gauge just in case. Now I’m back from a 1 hour city ride (AKA stop and go big time) temp is 90F outside, no CEL and the transmission shift perfectly smooth like every F37 TCM does……Well suppose to do! :banghead:

What you described with your transmission not shifting correctly sounds a lot like what I fought on my 2003 Dodge Dakota (45RFE transmission). I tow a 3500 pound travel trailer, and a 2000 pound boat (not all at once, that is nuts). The transmission would stick in a gear, or not shift into the next higher or lower gear. After a bit of research, I concluded that the control solenoids in the transmission were sticking. My theory was that the fluid was getting too hot and losing its lubrication qualities and viscosity. However, this issue didn't throw a CEL.

My fix was to have the transmission flushed and change the fluid to a good synthetic (Amsoil). That happened at about 75000 miles. I just traded it in at 131,000 miles and it only happened the one time.

Just my 2 cents. If you haven't changed the tranny fluid, at 51000 miles, it is due and certainly won't hurt.

Thanks for your com but sorry to not agree with your theory in my case, I was not towing anything when this happen and my Transmission (ATF+4)and both Differential (90-140W)have been service at 40,000 Miles, she never stick to a gear, just shifting hard and downshift hard and need about 15 miles on the HW to get in overdrive, after this period everything was find until my next start up. The overheat sensor send some kind of signal and the TCM keep this in memory so every time I start the truck the TCM stay in 'Safe mode' to protech the transmission this is what I think but I'm no expert.

Well something is wrong, I had to push the pedal to the floor about 6 sec to get on a fast traffic boulevard today, the CEL kick in and I got a P0700 code! My tranny don't shift in overdrive again...
I will check if the line are not clogs and install a aux cooler but it's maybe more serious...

I order the EURO TC and solenoid pack from moparonlineparts ($484.15us shipping???)
(Still waiting for my GDE Programmer and tune) ($750us)

I finaly get a Provent in Canada ($160Ca +$18 shipping)

A transmission cooler ($60 us)

Change lub and filter(2) in the tranny ($125 us)

Now that left one last upgrade, a Transgo shift kit 45RFE-HD2 or SK-45RFE ($60 us??)

Estimate total cost without manpower arround $1800 us

Add 8h manpower (5.5 in Mitchell) from my local garage ($400) and I'm set for $2200

Finally my truck is repaired! The symptom was a bit confusing getting goofy code advice from the “stealer” and my friend. The 18 days waiting period to receive my parts didn’t help but I if my experience can help someone I will get my reward :)

The symptom where a bit confusing, my truck shift a bit hard but after 5 minute normal condition except no overdrive, just 1-2-3 and 4 , after a 20 minutes ride the overdrive finally lockup! Everything can goes well for million miles until I stop the engine and start again, then another 20 minutes period is need to get in overdrive. The dealer identify my CEL (714A) and do a battle of test, the result was the CEL is in memory but not “active” so he reset the CEL and suggest me to install an auxiliary transmission cooler. (Because I get a overheat sensor CEL)

After all this I suspect my line or radiator was clog or the torque converter generate to much heat causing the TCM to get in some kind of “Security mode” to protect the trans , really weirdo! So I play safe and bought all suggestion! Yea I know it’s a bit extreme but the results are there.

In the mid time I discover my Trans cooler lines leak! G…More confusion..

I install a Transgo shift kit, the new solenoid pack, 2 new filter and an aux Trans cooler, test drive my truck…same result so the solenoid pack was not concern ($228us) Doooooo!

I brought the truck to a Trans shop and they install my new line and the euro torque….Bingo! I was right! The torque converter was guilty! Even the Trans shop doesn’t believe it can be the T/C. This T/c never shudder or vibrate he just slowly bake! End of the story..

Now Keith we have business to finish, see you soon

With the TC clutch material the tech found in my transmission pan at 35k miles I suspect mine would have been on that road soon too.

Enjoy the Full torque Eco tune towing your trailer! Your going from 260 foot pounds to 335 ft pounds at 2k rpms

'Just one word: Dekossé???
Translation: WTF???
You are one persistent customer and because of this, you now have a strongly improved and capable Libby, and as Martha would put it: "That's a good thing..."

BTW, in regard to issues with the solenoid pack, mine went down at 99,960km (right at the step of warranty limit), and symptom was instant limp mode. Luckily, I was coming out of the highway exit, only a minute from the stealership, so TG, that was a quick fix...

This sounds just like another problem i read somewhere with a weird transmission problem. The fix was to fit a new battery

I know sounds weird but that was the fix. perhaps something about low current

When was your battery replaced? Just a thought

God da....! De Kossé j'ai faite! Translation! What I have done! Yesterday I ask my girl friend to make a ride arround 21h pm we take the Highway and I let the truck "purr" at 1800 Rpm lockup in overdrive then I have to slow dow for 3 miles because of road maintenance work, I try to accelerate and my trans didn't get in overdrive again! Now I'm realy piss...I push the da... pedal to the metal and keep there until the engine get arround 3800 rpm, hey this thing can blow I dont care anymore....After a mile he get in overdrive so I relax and keep the Rpm back to 1800.

Today I make a ride...same thing no overdrive...I get to a transmission shop and the guy can't help me he said ' the TCU and ECU' got communication problem, my transmission is not overheating but the da.. CEL (P0714) come back again and again...

I'm not a persitent customer, I'm just the moron who already invest $3800 in it....

No way I will never let go....It's already to late, I loose 3 weeks of my 4 weeks vacantion trying to get my parts and repair the da... truck , tomorrow I live with my camping trailer...The transmission don't overheat anyway so I keep the truck in 4 gear and try to enjoy my second weekend trip in 2010! This time if I get 14mpg It's gone a be a miracle...

Ok I check my battery Quicksilver, I even consider to wash the Jeep with Holy water so ....I'm ready to try anything :furious:

I edit this post because I finaly find the guilty candidate of all my headache....THE TCU after numerous hours of search and test my truck is fix for good! I enjoy my ride now...It's about time.
