Very interesting. My beloved Stanadyne didn't do so well. Where do you get that Opti-Lube stuff?

It later came out that Opit-Lube was tipped off in advance and their handed over sample was not a random bought off the shelf sample like the other vendors. Therefore, this is not a blind test. Eliminate Opti-Lube and review the results, but keep in mind, this is only one test.
In my line of work the testing game is played all the time. Sludge Filter Belt Press manufactures will tighten up the belt to squeeze the sludge dryer than is commonly done by operators to exceed the Engineer's requirements. When the test is done, the belt tension is loosened up, never to be run that tight again.

Way to GO biodiesel?
at 2% it did better all the rest!! ALL THE REST!!

oh and our Jeeps came with 5% from the factory...

so why mess with the rest..unless it too cold.. but it has to be really cold for 2% to gel..25% around where I live is good enough for all winter with temps into the teens over night. sure this is specific to the blend in my biodiesel..but I know mine is not made from 100% soy either. think peanut and higher melting points..

I finally found a Love's truck stop about 15 miles from my house that has "B5" stickers on their pumps. I think I'll hit that station more often now after reading this study.

Most of what I find is either premium with lubricant or B5-B20.
I stay away from Citgo it foams so much and delivers lousy mileage.

What a crock. Look at the ratios. Run them all at the same ratio and list the report.

They tested the ratios as recommended by the manufacturer, so equal ratios are not relevant in this study.

Isn't this the same article there was a long discussion on back in December, 07?

Hey Lewis, long time no see……….. In regards to your question, I’ve seen these test results from time to time posted on several forums. I’m not sure if these test results were ever posted here, so I decided to post it for those who haven’t been exposed to such data. Now that I think about it, I do remember posting some data on Wal-Mart’s Super Tech 2 Stroke “ashless” TCw3 some time ago.

Now that we moved back to New Mexico, I load up on B100 every time I go to Albuquerque and later mix my own fuel additive. :pepper:

Hey Lewis, instead of coming out to Kansas for pheasant hunting, you can come out to NM for an Elk hunt. 8)

That study has been out for years and is generally accepted as a fair test; this is the first time I have heard this accusation.. Can you please back your assertion that Optilube cheated?

Each additive tested was obtained independently via internet or over the
counter purchases. The only exceptions were Opti-Lube XPD and the biodiesel
sample. The reason for this is because Opti-Lube XPD additive was
considered “experimental” at the time of test enrollment and was not yet on
the market. It was sent directly from Opti-Lube company.

The author of the document just means to take the XPD results with a grain of salt, since it was not an off-the-shelf purchase. I wouldn't read into it that opti-lube cheated.

I apologize, it seemed to be the implication that Optilube supplied something different specifically for the test. I'm not sure how that can cast any part of the test in doubt; The test results speak for themselves and seemed to be completely objective.

Opti-lube is still referencing this study on their website. I would think if there was evidence they cheated they wouldn't be doing that. Just my .02.

Is there any advantage to putting in less than the recommended additive? If I just add a few ounces of WM 2cycle oil will that help a little? I am not as precise as some here, I keep a bottle of oil handy & toss in a few ounces every fill up but don't pay much attention to precise measurements.

As long as you're adding 1/2 oz of TCw3 per gallon, you should reap the benefits. My first choice would be Biodiesel if you can find it. Keep in mind that you may be adding unwanted contaminants to your fuel by running the TCw3.

Cleaning pheasants is unpleasant enough, dragging an elk out of the mountains is more than I want to consider. Are you living full time in NM now?
