What are the symptoms? I did the EU and am completely satisfied with it. I have a second NIB one too.. Others here have had good luck with the Suncoast too, I believe. |

The best thing I can tell you to do is figure out what you are willing to spend. Suncoast units are exspensive like $600 and some change last time I checked. While the Euro TC (PN#68037142AA) are $200 and your local dealership will install them and warranty them. But really the best person to talk to this about is the guys at Green Diesel Engineering http://www.greendieselengineering.com. If you go into thier forums section it give you quite a bit of information on this subject even how to change it out yourself. |

Euros are more like $300+ and the SunCoast is ~$700. Besides the SunCoast being a stronger torque converter built specifically for the CRD and will handle anything the 2.8L VM can be tuned to put out . Also, your engine vibration will go down (I need to give my wife more back massages now) since the now stock Euro has less rotating mass to smooth out the 4 cylinder power pulses, a simple pesky Law of Physics. I have not tested on in my CRD and could not testify in a Court of Law, but based on Isac Newtons long ago discovery of inertia, the Presision Industries Hemi that also uses a billet front cover should run as smooth as a SunCoast (that is coming from a SunCoast owner). No converter Euro, Suncoast, or Precision Industries Hemi can handle the wrong fluid or a bad front pump. Those who have griped about problems with any of the three above have violated the Prime Directive requiring the use of ATF+4 or they had a bad front pump. The other thing you need do is to have Loctite on the four torque converter bolts so they do not come loose and maybe crack the flex plate (yup it has happened). The now Stock Replacement Euro uses dry Blue Loctite applied to the bolts, a no brainer Chrysler should have done the first time. SunCoast recommends wet Red Loctite applied just before installation, common sense to me anyway. I don't know what Precision Industries recommends, but I would bet they would be happy to tell you. Don't ever let the Fundamentalist KJ FSM Thumpers Blow any smoke up your back side and try to tell you not to use Loctite, they should invest in Exlax for their 401K.

Yes the Suncoast are nice but i have the Euro TC and i have no vibrations or shudder anymore and i am hot tuned and flow through exhaust. I also drag race it once a month but that is about to change when i get my lift and tires on. But i have never had problems with this TC even while "warming" the tires up |

Any option will fix the shudder if you use the correct fluid and have a good pump. Unless you have driven both a Stock and SunCoast or Precision Industries with the front billet cover that has more flywheel mass, you don't know what you are talking about. In fact, WelshCherokeeCRD can an hear Sir Isac Newton rolling over in his grave. All the Euro has over the original stock is larger dampener springs. I posted photos and data of both the stock and Euro. Look it up. |

"Last week we installed two of the recently released Mopar torque converters with part number 68037142AA. This unit has a higher capacity lock-up clutch in order to eliminate any potential shudder from the vehicle. We installed one unit into a 2005 and the other in a 2006 KJ CRD. We have tested the converter without pulling a trailer using both the ECO tune and HOT tune. The converter is a marked improvement over stock and we were not able to initiate any shudder with the ECO tune or HOT tune. We tried simulating a trailer load by modulating the brakes to hold 1700rpm in 3rd gear lock-up and even with full fueling the converter would not shudder. This proceedure was repeated at 50 rpm increments up to 2300 rpm and everything functioned well. The plan is to complete trailer tow testing by next week and provide more data on the forum when complete. So far we are very pleased with the converter!" This is a quote directly off the the Green Diesel Engineering website and these people are what i consider experts at these jeeps. Not saying your possibly not.But yes the Suncoast is alot stronger yes it is has more rotating mass softing the vibrations even more. But this is a jeep and money doesn't grow on trees and I have never had a pump replaced and have always done my own service by the book even with mopar ATF4. And more recentely with Royal Purple Max ATF and haven't had any shudder since the TC change. So the way i look at is you either go with what you can afford or what you want . I went Euro and haven't had a single complaint since. |

audiboy86 Get your Eco tune updated to the "full torque" version then do your trailer testing I have the Euro TC and full torque Eco tune. What a suprise I had on our last trip towing our 3000# travel trailer As a bonus the F37 TCM tune is as perfect as a person could wish for as far as towing goes.

I went Euro and haven't had a single complaint since. Any supplier who goes for having expertise on what they do not sell is treading on thin ice. SunCoast has expertise on Transmissions and buys their tunes and performance hardware for their test trucks from others. When it comes to transmissions and torque converters I value SunCoast's recommendations on torque converters and transmissions more than a Tuner like GDE, InMotion, or RocketChip all of whom sell chip tuning. If GDE outfitted their CRD test mules with Euro torque converters, they are free to do so as are you. When I tow, I want the strongest torque converter I can get and lower torsional vibrational is a plus that lowers the power train stress resulting in longer more reliable life. As I stated above," Any option will fix the shudder if you use the correct fluid and have a good pump." With my Experimental TCM (I am still testing) that I installed before the SunCoast/Transgo upgrade, I was running at higher torque loads than the original stock converter was ever designed to handle and had no shudder even when I did my best to make it shudder. I always used the correct fluid and my pump was OK when I pulled it off the trans to install the upgraded pump valves. Based upon my findings, it is my opinion that F-37 was a dirt cheap fix for the defective transmission front pumps that Chrysler tried to cover up by cutting the engine torque and horse power hoping the converters would not fail in warranty. VM told Chrysler from day one to put the heavy duty springs that are now in the Euro converter. My pump was not defective, if your Euro worked with out installing the Transgo valves, your pump was not defective either. How many front pumps were/are defective, time will tell. The failure was caused by a defective pumps and the original converter although weak, was the victim, not the cause. |

Without pulling a trailer it overheats at 55?!? First of all the torque converter should be locked and not generating any heat at that speed. Second, the gauge you see on the dashboard is measuring engine coolant temp. Please describe how you know it is overheating. Take the Jeep to a coin operated car wash and spray the radiator (from the outside and pop the hood and hit it from the inside) until the water hitting the ground is crysltal clear. It's amazing how much fine silt and mud can be retained in the intercooler/radiator/air conditioning condensor/trans cooler combo unit that is behind the grill. |

Amen but you forgot the bugs I once bought a high mileage VW Jetta with diesel engine that overheated badly on the freeway and the AC made it worse I'll not go into detail of all I did to cure it but it took 30 minutes with my pressure washer cleaning the radiator and condensor coil of dead bugs

Fill me in on the "full torque" update to the ECO Tune. Will it work with the stock torque converter? How does it affect MPG? My trans/converter has been trouble free so far and I really don't want to go the expense of a new torque converter. |

well the cel came on and it was a transmission code and it said lost of pump prime.....and i know it is the engine but if i take it out of overdrive when it is overheating then it cools off i i always clean the doo doo out if it i have been off roading since the day i got my license but i was thinking of changing the coolant tomorrow and taking the radiator out just to see what it look like and putting in an external cool for the transmission....any advice with that??? |

Here is the part # for the EURO Torque Converter 68037142AA, if you still need it? It is about $300 and will take up to 400 ft. lb. of torque. |
