Howdy. We are the 3rd owners of our Jeep and previous owners left documentation that a window regulator was replaced under warrenty. Last month a window quit. Checked Lostjeeps and ebay for solutions. There is an Ebayer that rebuilds them and guarantees them for life.

Contacted Jeep Warrenty just in case.

They covered the window............FREE. Before you spend money and scrape valuable body parts, give it a shot, contact Jeep Customer Service. The dealer tells me they replace a lot of Liberty windows.

Let's keep the USA, One Nation Under GOD !

Better watch your use of the G word now that the Panties Wad section is locked and gone.
A lot of us share your view and will put our lives on the line to defend your right to say it, but some of the Lords of the LOST Forum drink Kool Aid and will give you a talking to.

I'm glad you got them covered for free. Just to add an alternative perspective, the original window regulators fail because of a design flaw in the plastic clip that holds the window to the rail. No even so much a design flaw as the clips are made from cheap plastic.

The guy on Ebay, though expensive, sells metal replacements for these parts... hence, they won't break. I know of some folks who have gone through 2, 3, 4, even more window regulators, on the same window, by having Jeep replace the entire assembly (when they only need to replace the clip). Rather than deal with the hassle, I went on ahead and spent the money on the permanent fix.

Just my :2cents:

It's interesting, because if you read the forums it will quickly sound like a plague. It seems like ALL Libertys had the window problems. Yet, my wife and I have owned 3 KJ Libertys and have never had a single window issue EVER...and my current one has 88,000 miles on it. (Going to knock on wood now).

My wife had problems with hers..as in they wouldn't move. no motor noise.
I took the door panel and found the problem. the connection to the motor is lousy..the last time I fixed it. I tied the connector to the motor so it couldn't move. its been working for the past year.

Also silicon the tracks..

From day one my windows would chatter going down when it was raining. As time went on it got worse. So before it was out of warranty I had the dealer take care of them. They replaced most everything including the glass. It seems there are two styles of windows/regulators depending of date of manufacturer. They did manage to scratch the paint on the front doors doing the repair. I guess they give the warranty work to the "new guys" :|

I wish I had only gone through 2, 3, or 4 of these suckers. I replaced each of the back regulators 5 times and each of the front ones 3 times. My front windows haven't been a problem since I had them fixed last time (probably three years ago). At my prodding, the stealership loosened things up to take away some of the bind. As for the back ones, after I did the 5th replacement, they quit working. I taped them up for over a year with blue painters tape. My wife kept asking when I would get them fixed. I told her they were fixed . . . that's what the tape was for. Finally, they came out with the permanent fix. DC refused to pay for it ($@#%!). I was ticked, so I pulled the door panels and screwed them closed. Total cost = about 10 cents. Who needs operational back windows anyway!?!?

Yea, I believe that qualifies as a political statement.

I will trade my Liberty in on something else before I ever tape my windows shut and screw them permanently in the up position. That's nuts. A 30 year old truck...maybe cobble it together with screws and duct tape. A 5 year old one... no way in he11.

My driver's rear broke Saturday out on the New Mexico prairie. I've replaced all of them at least once, this one twice, under warranty. Drove it to Santa Fe where the dealer wanted $288 to "fix" it for the third time. He claimed that Chrysler has addressed the issue but you have to buy all new glass, regulators, etc. At least my tax dollars weren't wasted bailing out this worthless company.

When the passenger's rear broke last time I fixed it with the Steiger kit and will do the same with this one. http://www.steigerperformance.com/

Here's my camp on the prairie:

Bottom line: unless all the plastic regulator clips have been replaced with metal, never leave anything of value in the rig for even the shortest period of time when parked in an unsecured location. Just visualize the rig with one of its windows rolled down as you are leaving it parked.
The windows only deter the lazy thieves, of course.
