This weekend I installed a Mr. Gasket 12D in line fuel supply pump. My lack of electrical skills was evident--but eventually I got it working.

On my first test drive with the pump (after it was actually operational) I blew the fuel prime pump fuse. It had a 10 amp fuse in the box from the factory. I checked the pump and it is a 12 amp pump. I replaced the fuse with a 15 amp. Has anyone else had to do this? Do you think I run the risk of over charging the itsy bitsy blue-orange wire under the rear drivers side seat by using a 15 amp fuse? What about if I end up having to replace with a 20 amp--anyone forsee a problem with using a 20 amp fuse?

if it's rated at 12amp, then the 15amp fuse should be perfect. Just cause you put a higher rated fuse in the holder doesn't mean that it supply that current to the device, you could put a 50amp in there and the pump will still only draw 12 amps.

If it shorts out however, thats another story. When it's shorted and still doesn't draw over 50 amp then the wire starts to burn and you have an electrical fire.

with a 15 amp if the pump begins to draw more than the 15 then the fuse burns and the wiring is safe. I would say even with a 20 amp in there you would be fine, likely cause if somethings shorts out it will draw more than 20 and burn the fuse and everything will be safe.

go with the 15 for now, but I wouldn't go more than 20.

Thanks . . . like I said, I'm pretty rough on the electrical side of things.
