I highly doubt that brand new out of the can 0w 40 Mobil one oil would be the cause of your engine noise. It may have been there while driving it with 5w 40 and prior to the 0w 40. How many quarts did you put in? |

I to have noticed differing acoustic properties of various oils in the KJ CRD. For example, I used to run a 5W-40 semi-synthetic and it did quiet the engine compared to a full synthetic like SIN Diesel (no longer produced), and Mobil 1 (even in 5w-40 configuration). |

have any of you guys put a larger oil filter on your crd? like a purolater L40017? my engine at idle seems to be a noticeably more quite with the larger filter, its just an oversized filter that is made for the big fords, threads right on. |

Did you miss this thread? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=55268 I've personally never noticed a difference in noise with the different filter. They are always loud. Edit, I just checked on the L40017 and the micron rating is 32 as opposed to 21 for the stock filter, so in this case bigger is not better. I run the Mobil1 M1-301, which is a little bigger than stock and same micron rating, same as a WIX 51515. |

Take a video of it running and post it here. You can upload it to YouTube and post a link, or embed it here from photobucket or another pic website like it. I ran Mobil 1 0w-40 my first couple of changes, then have used Mobil 1 5w-40 TDT since with no problems. I use a stock-size Purolator PureOne filter. I've noticed that it runs a little quieter the first 20 or 30 miles after an oil change, then it sounds like normal after that. |

The more junk you can keep out of your oil with a good filter, the longer the engine will run. I added a centrifuge to my CRD and hope to run an Oil Analysis when I get to 10k on the oil. A friend runs his 5.9L Cummins to 15K with no problems. The way Centrifuges and By Pass filters work is by using an internal relief valve to direct the excess oil that will get dumped back into the pan into the respective unit to better clean the oil. The Centrifuge develops high artificial gravity to extract the fine particles and a By Pass filter uses a finer filter media. Either way you get even finer filtration and cleaning of the oil. Something else to think of. |

ok.... i've had the check enging light on for a few months , egr low flow code.... tonight i do a fuel filter .... i did not have any fuel on hand and did not want to hand pump (lazy) so i filled it up with 911 fuel additive .....ive done this with my other diesels .....we drove it to dog class about 35 miles and now the check engine light is off ... weird!! the noise is not "better " .... sounds like a snap snap snap ....or tack tack tack .....i have not video or audio (sorry geeks) .... i have driven about 200 miles and other than noise ... it runs the same..... fram , wix , motorcraft , amsoil, bla bla bla .... i've never had an engine failure with a simple oil change ..ive done 3 oil and filter changes in 9k miles ....if this crd is sooo delicate that a 32 vs 27 micron filter makes the engine fail, then i may not want it....

Near it there is a square rubber plug about 2" x 2" you pop out to look in. |
