Post subject:  Recent service and improved acceleration and MPG???

So tonight I finally got around to installing my SAMCO hoses

I figure "the hood is already open" sooooo.... I finally cleaned the EGR sensor and replaced the fuel filter with a new WIX. The original hoses were "oily" but no soft spots or tears. The smaller diameter hose on passenger side had one semi-loose clamp.

Took a little drive just to gloat over my handiwork and WOW!!!!

Much better response off the line, no hesitation beween throttle and GO! Also sounds quieter, less diesely (not that I mind her usual purring), and the EVIC says that I am getting about 4mpg's better. Yes I am aware the EVIC lies, but I am betting it has a method to it's madness and lies CONSISTENTLY.

So the question is THIS: Am I seeing these improvements because of the combined effect of these three "serviced items", or is it primarily due to ONE? If it is one, which one? Since the SAMCO's were $250+ and the others two were $20 and $0, I HOPE it was the SAMCO's :-)r

Next mod/upgrade will be GDE tunes: ECO and TCM, next week I hope.

psieg2, can you tell me how long it took you to get the EGR out and did you get it from the top or bottom?

What "EGR SENSOR" did you clean?? Are you talking about the MAP or possibly MAF?

Joe,

Sorry as my handle says, I am a NOOB. Since the MAF sensor is what you unplug for the ORM and is at the Airbox, I unplugged the sensor on the engine manifold (on top close to firewall), and cleaned the goop (black gooey tar like substance) off of the little sensor that looks like a yellow matchstick. Maybe this is the MAP? One of the forums (Aussies I think) calls it the Boost Control Sensor... I used their pics to find it.

In any case it is the sensor that is not supposed to get slimed up again if you are running the ORM, or get the GDE tune.

Thanks for all the great info on these boards, and forgive my ignorance!

Phil

Yes, you cleaned the MAP sensor. That and the fuel filter change (if it has been a while) are probably why you notice driveability improvements. The Samcos are more preventative than anything else...

So what is your real milage? I did all three of those, replaced the thermo, and got the GDE ECO tune. I went from 19-21 average (350-390 miles per tank) to 26-28 mpg (500-550 miles per tank) Check out my Fuelly.com. The Samcos made a difference, but the new therom was also an improvement. I'm wondering if winter will be better too now.
