Hello all,

I've noticed what appears to be an accumulation of soot in the right rear corner of the engine bay. Since this is where the exhaust exits the turbo and heads down and out, I suspect there may be a leak here somewhere. Except for the fact that everything in that corner is black, I really haven't noticed any other signs of trouble. I'm considering getting it checked by a shop, but figured it would be good to run it by here first. Has anyone else experienced this? Pics below aren't great, but give you some idea.

Thanks!

You could try tightening the band clamp that holds the down pipe onto the turbine outlet. Looks like it's loose or the pipe is cracked.

X2 on the clamp and check the pipe that carries the exhaust to the EGR. It bolts to the back end of the exhaust manifold and runs around the back of the engine. I have heard too many Dealers want to stick CRD owners for a turbo, don't give them the opportunity this time.

Yes, good call on the EGR pipe. I'd forgotten that, but there were one or two cases of it cracking at the flange where it meets the exhaust manifold.

See, this is exactly why I wanted to put it here first. I was quite sure it wasn't the turbo, but this gives me something specific to look for. Big thanks!
