New to the Liberty CRD but do love that diesel. Have a question about installing a lift pump. How much pressure and GPH should I look for in a lift pump. There seems to be a lot of 12v pumps out there with prices from under $59 to over $500 and pressure and GPH numbers that seem to vary just as much. Want to get a good pump but don't want to shell out more than I have to for one.

I would not exceed 5psi. I spent the extra money and got a Kennedy lift pump which is rated at 4psi. The advantages of this type of pump (surely not its cost, its pricey) are the following:

They are nearly silent in operation as well as being seal-less, brushless and leak proof.
The centrifugal design eliminates the need to prefilter the fuel for the pump's sake, and will not generate wear particles as there is no metal to metal contact taking place.
Flow across an inactive pump is virtually unrestricted and average life expectancy is 40,000+ hrs.

Thanks for the info. I ran across an ad for a FACET/Purolator pump. Says it is solid state, rated for diesel fuel and will last 4 to 5 times as long as a regular pump. Specs are 4 to 7psi and 32gph. Anyone know anything about these pumps?

That sounds like mine. A Facet 40109. The specs are right on.

You can run up to 10 psi. I ran the Facet. Worked well but was loud. I have the Cummins pump now (out of my truck) and it is seamless very quiet. 9psi at idle.

I have the Facet 40109 as well. The pump is attached to the inside drivers side frame rail using rubber well nuts for vibration isolation. The pump is close to the tank but lower to facilitate a siphoning effect pre pump from the tank to the lift pump. Unfortunately, my lift pump failed after approx. 30,000 miles. It seems as though an air leak at the fuel hose quick disconnects has caused the failure. Originally, I choose the Facet 40109 to save some time and not worry about dropping the tank (which happened to be full) when I installed the lift pump. Had I know then that I would be dropping the tank later to replace the quick disconnects with some 3/8inch fuel hose I might have choose the in tank option instead.

I have the Facets in both of my jeeps, they seem to be surviving in the engine bay, just behind the battery. I can only hear a slight noise before I crank the engine - which is nice, I want to know it's still working. Once it's running there's no way I could hear it over the engine.
