Here is new Chrysler diesel technology that is being built in America and available to the world, but not sold in the USA.

If they put a turbo diesel in the wrangler before 2007 i probably would have bought one, maybe the reason they do not offer in US is because they couldnt pass the redic. emissions tests here.

Wonder if the TC on that would fit the 06 CRD.

It would be like driving a golf cart, shuts off when you hit the brakes. No thank you.

Speaking of the CARB thread, I wonder why Captain Planet and his Planeteers did not jump in and defend CARB?

Reading the article the stop/start feature is on the standard shift ones and therefore would not have a TC :SOMBRERO:

Maybe CARB's check bounced. I learned one thing about Contractors, if you don't pay them, they don't work.
I suspect Captain Planet is a Contract Troll on the CARB/EPA pay role.

I heard a good analogy about CARB getting caught.
It is not like getting caught with their pants down like the Enviro-Crusader from Tennessee and his therapist.
What CARB did is more like Streaking a Orthodox Religious Wedding Ceremony, Screaming Profanities, and throwing up on the Bride and Groom.

Tell me more about the start/stop. Kinda like a hybrid with the electric?

Start/stop works like this in a nutshell:

You're driving along and come to a red light. Clutch out trans in neutral, the engine stops.

Light turns green, depress the clutch and the engine starts. The advantage is saving all the wasted fuel from idling. At the end of the day, it adds up to a noticeable difference if your daily commute takes you through the city route.

There aren't any "hybrid" electronics or high-voltage batteries for start/stop.
The start/stop vehicles have a few specific parts that make the operation more efficient:
*Upgraded starter motor for power and durability
*Intelligent Battery Sensor: communicates battery state of charge to know if the battery is too discharged to start efficiently
*Upgraded crank sensor and tone wheel: ECU can synchronize cam/crank faster to start sooner. The engine starts in 550ms from starter engagement to stable idle
*Additional sensor on trans for detecting neutral position

Enjoy your CRD. :-)

Same thing they have had on the John Deere Gator 4x2 diesel for years. It runs when you put your foot on it, it stops when you stop.

The one I drove around the block had three pedals.

I suspect that this will yield a much better return on a gas engine. Diesel fuel usage at idle is almost non-existent. Unless your in a regen cycle.

Yup, after using my CRD as a hotel and idling it for 8 hours... Using only 2 gallons during that time... This seems to be a solution searching for a problem. Move along, the payoff on a diesel isn't worth it.

Actually I think the drive for this comes from the European version of CARB. (even they are not immune)

Diesels at idle still generate emissions, and the thinking is, no idling, no emissions.
