Anyone know what would cause a "pop" when coming to a stop or idling at a light? It has happened twice today, after going from 50-60 mph then coming to a stop, idling for a few seconds, then I get one pop. Engine runs smooth besides this. |

I get that, except mine isn't so much a pop but it is like a quick "boing". Some others have a more drawn out sound, and I think they might be related. I think somewhere pressure is being let off, and they sound different depending on how individual valves open. This is completely speculation though. I've let it go for nearly a year and have seen no problems besides the noise yet. Haven't noticed it much lately, maybe once a month. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50161 |

I would second the loose motor mount. Search for that, or my posts (author) on the same thing. Get it in a lift and use a 2x4 or some other non damaging fulcrum to see if there is play between the engine and suspension. For some reason the passenger side seems to be more common. |

Could possibly be the rear differential binding on the splines of output shaft on the transfer case When you stop the rear of the jeep goes up. then when you start again it goes down and that's what mostly makes more of a feeling then a noise. When I first felt it on my 2nd XJ I thought it was a transmission but I knew when the third XJ did it and I lubed the splines on the 4th one when I replaced my u-joints. But my CRD has not done it yet and I asked they specifically lube it when they put my new TC in back in July |

Mine was a broken motor mount when I heard the same sound under the same conditions |

How does one go about "fixing" the loose motor mount? Does it simply have to be re-tourqed? |

I forget the socket size but I had mine tightened about 4 years ago. They turned the nut about 4 turns of the ratchet and problem solved never to be heard again. Only the passenger side was a little loose. |
