I noticed a new player in bypass filters in the latest copy of 4Wheel and Sport Utility: Topdog V: http://paretopoint.com/item--TopDog-V--topdogv_s.html Its looks pretty well made and much cheaper than other makes (and simpler). I submitted a request to them to see if there's an adapter plate for the CRD filter dimesions. Dan |

I saw that; look forward to your post when you get a reply. It certainly looks a LOT simpler than the usual method - I wonder if it works as well? I also wonder how much extra it adds to the filter dimensions; I wouldn't like to buy it only to find that it won't fit under the skid plate! |

Calls its' self a bypass but wants you to believe it is full flow. Can't be both, sorry. Sir Isac Newton is having a spasm. |

Looks good to me. Id like to see a braided line option though. |

All, haven't gotten a reply yet. I might need to call them. Lancer, it's hard to tell from the install docs, but there looks to simply be a small puck that fits inline in the current filter location (looks to be about 1" think or thereabouts). The (included) plumbing does look to be a little plain-jane, but that's easily remedied by your local auto speed shop. Sorry for the folks across the pond. I don't know how hard NPT fittings are to come by in Europe. The dimensions of the bypass filter unit itself are the available on the amsoil site (since they spec an amsoil filter cartridge). As for it not being a real bypass, sure, that's true, but the big benefit of a bypass is being able to filter the oil at a finer particle size without impacting the cooling/lubrication capacity of the full-flow. It looks like they've done a simple flow-split design, which although from a purist's standpoint is not as good, probably wouldn't be a problem in any but the most harsh loaded environments . Dan |
