I am brand new to the forum and hopefully picking up my 2006 CRD tomorrow or wednesday. I have read a few places that older diesel engines may have difficulty operating with the ULS Diesel in emission control states (Cali, mass.. etc). was that someone who had no idea what he was talking about, or is that a real concern. I live in texas right now, but i will be driving back home to massachusetts for the xmas holidays and i just wanted to make sure i wouldnt be putting anything into the truck that might mess it up. Low Sulfur Diesel (except for Bio) was all that was available in the US when the CRDs rolled off the line. By the time you get to MA, all of any Low Sulfur Diesel in your tank will be displaced by ULSD. Besides, lets face it, where are you going to run into a tail pipe Nazi who will pull you over with Texas plates going to MA to visit friends and family. In most of IL, IN, IA, MI, & WI where I drive for my work when I don't fly, most of the Low Sulfur Diesel pumps have the extra big nozzle that does not fit in the CRD neck with out an adapter or modifying the size of the hole. Just do not get caught with any off road diesel that is died RED in most of the areas I have been in. Have a great trip. |

If anything, more folks seem to have had issues early on with the LSD (pre-2006 nationally, I think). I want to say the higher sulfur contents wrecked havoc on the EGRs. Be happy that ULSD is the standard for 90% of the pumps you'll encounter since it does burn much cleaner and is more similar to what the VMMotori engine would have been designed for (European-standard fuels). If you're worried about lubricity, pick up a gallon or two of biodiesel somewhere and mix it in with each tank. Not quite as good, but also good for lubrication are the various commercial fuel additives. Dan |

Thanks for the quick advice guys. That makes me feel better about buying the diesel. Now I just can't wait to get outta work and go pick it up!! I have a few plans to tinker with it this weekend!! |

I run ULSD in all my vehicles, non of them are older, it is a mute point to even worry about the ULSD. |
