Post subject:  Got our CRD!!!

After what seems like a long search, we finally bought out CRD! We got a silver 2005 Limited. Now, I know full well that I paid too much, but we typically buy a new vehicle every 10 years and I needed a "new" CRD. This one has 45K miles and looks new. It was a "certified pre-owned" so they were pretty proud of it. I also bought the Chrysler 4 year warranty, which I may regret, but I just didn't feel like taking a chance.

It has the stock TC, and we will be doing some modrate towing, so I don't know how that will work out. Hopefully it will fail early and at an opportune time. Ha. I tried for hours to get the dealer to replace the TC, but their answer was "it's under warranty".

I've read about all the fine work that has been done by all of you to work around problems and make improvements. I will not be talking about my implementing any of these. But I may be asking about them, just so I will know more about what to do when the warranty runs out :goink:

Get a GDE tune, or do the ORM, unless you really like going to the dealer? Any ways, welcome aboard.

Howdy - Welcome to LOST

(be amazed that the dealer recognized that Jeep produced a Diesel)

Thanks. I hate going to the dealer, and I'll do what I can to minimize damage to the engine and not jeopardize the warranty.

The salesman was the one who took the CRD in trade, so he knew what it was. We did go to a dealer in New Braunfels where the salesman drove it and said "hey, you know that's a diesel? I didn't know they made a diesel Liberty". But I guess that's better than getting a mechanic who says the same thing. :banghead:

The dealer cant see the GDE tune, and the ORM will set a CEL. If you don't do one of these, you may have EGR failure?

Actually I bought mine at Bluebonnet in New Braunfels -
they also did a lot of the service - so they do know CRD's exist - however the Jeep section was the newer part - and no one had much experience on anything.

I ended up going to an Austin dealer that sells/services Cummins & Sprinter in addition to Jeep.

uuummmhhh............Yes and No - it did take 12 tries to diagnose that my glow plug was dying because of a crack in the head - but they did the 12 tries and a new head - total cost was a 1 time $100 deductible.

Ha, yep, this was at Bluebonnet. The Sales Manager had just moved over from the Ford dealership, and the salesman was pretty new to life outside of High School...

I agree. EGR failure is covered under the warranty, for what it's worth.

Agreed. I do not usually do extended warranties, partly because I never have had to use one of the one's I bought. If that is the case with this one, it will be money well spent, if that makes any sense.

I don't usually buy extended warranties either but for the CRD I got the Chrysler Gold warranty that coverd the most parts for 7 years/70k miles. And it was the only Chrysler plan that covered the EGR :jester:

My egr and fcv went out under the 3 year/36k warranty. But after the 3 years were up my warranty has paid for it's self and I have untill May 26, 2013 or 32k more miles. Torque converter and front pump, power steering rack an rear glass gas struts so far
