I've searched and searched and can't find the writeup on how to change the EGR. Can someone point me in the right direction or paste a link?

Thanks,
Craig

I'd never know if my EGR was bad, I don't use it...

AFAIK, the dealers have done most EGR work under warranty, but I'm sure someone here has done it and can help you.

Is it stuck open or closed?

I'm assuming it gets stuck open. I would like to close the darn thing off and do a GDE tune. It has been intermittently loosing power for a long time. I took it into the dealership to see if they could tell me what was wrong and they told me it was the EGR valve but that was back in August.

The codes the shop got were P0401, P0105, P0299 and EGR Flow Min.

With the cold temps, the Jeep wont warm up much and it is constantly loosing power. Can't get up over 40 MPH.

I haven't pulled any recent codes but the CEL is always on. Has been for the past couple of years. I don't have a code reader and was thinking of buying the GDE one with the tune.

I'm suspect of air in the fuel and all the other issues these things seem to have. If its not one problem its another. However, we own the thing so I figure I will just fix it and keep driving.

We have right at 80,000 miles.

Hammy,

P0401 is a stuck closed EGR and the P0299 is for underboost, leading to lower performance. You should try the tune first and then look into the EGR valve if the situation does not improve. Chances are good the tune will help the situation you are in.

No kidding! I might call and order it tomorrow. I was going to do it anyway.

Thanks,
Craig

Does anyone know of a writeup on changing the EGR? I thought there was one but I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks,

Just an update... The GDE Hot Tune seems to have fixed my EGR issue. The check engine light is off and hasn't come back on and no more loss of power.

Thanks GDE!

Now to continue on with the long list of other issues my CRD has.

Craig

Don't hold back, let us know what the issues are, and we can point you at solutions. This forum has become the primary brain-trust for these vehicles. I think the members here have experienced and fixed just about everything the CRD can throw out as a problem... And we have re-engineered a fair amount of the gremlins too.

Oh, its the common theme, I need to order the CAC hoses and a new thermostat this week. I need to replace my rear bushings and then maybe, just maybe, it will hold out and not give me any issues for a month or so. Heck, I would be happy to have a week of no issues or CEL's.

I also need to check my motor mounts and plan on scheduling a timing belt replacement. I have a feeling that one will really hurt because the others I can tackle myself.

I did just get a code reader which is really nice and helpful.

Thanks for all the info. this forum is a lifesaver.

Craig
