does anyone have a rats nest like this? Looks like the dealer did a wireing modification in the TCU. |

Are you sure the dealer did that? I'm betting a previous owner did it. It's a common mod on the Rams and V8 Jeeps that use this transmission. They have the TCM wired so that the "torque management" feature is disabled. This allows full torque at launch, rather than the computer dialing back the torque to protect the transmission. On the V8 Jeeps and trucks, this makes the vehicle much faster and fun to drive (at the expense of some transmission life). But this is the first time I've ever seen it done to the CRD. |

I picked up the vehicle about a year and a half ago from a Jeep dealer here in NM. Prior to purchase I had them run the service record. The transmission was replaced a few months prior to my purchase. I was assuming that the wiring hack job was done during the replacement by the dealer. Im impressed that you cans spot “the TCM wired so that the "torque management" feature is disabled” Is it the white wire jumping the yellow and brown that is doing the disable? |

It could also be a not-so-stealth install of an SEGR, but that is a messy way to do anything in the TCM controller. Mine looks a bit better than that, I did a stealth install of the SEGR so that you would have had to dig out the wires from INSIDE the ECM and TCM connectors to find my install... And it remained looking pretty and stock until the TCM bolt jammed in the TCM and started just spinning. I had to carve the plastic with a dremel to cut the top of the bolt off. Now, it looks something like that pictured mess. |

They did use marine grade heat shrink on the splices |

Can you track down exactly what pins connect to what (even just the stock color-code would help)? That would give us a pretty good idea if what you have is a patch for previous stuff or a sloppy install that remains. BTW. this is how a cleanly done wiring harness mod should look http://kj.polter.net/pics/segr Dan |
