I snowed over a foot of snow here last night and of course we had to dig out. My wife cousen decided to show off and not use the snow blower and was in a hurry to dig the lincoln out. Well he didn't dig well enough and hit the pile of snow at the end of the driveway that the snow plow left. Well he got it stuck in deep snow up to the wheel wells.

I continue to clear the drive with the snow blower while he tried to dig the lincoln out. The I crank up the CRD and let it idle a while and cleared the snow off the windows. I finish clearing the drivway one the one side and told him to get the tow chain and hook it to his hitch. I back the CRD out and turn it around and set it in 4 low. I had him hook the chain to the CRD hitch and told him to leave the lincoln in neutral. The Crd first pulled the lincoln 2 feet sideways and then right out of the driveway with ease. You should seen his face with his girlfriend ask him how he did that. Show off!

Yeah, I love replying to my own messages too. Sometimes you feel like a ghost in your own topic ya know? :P

Cool to hear the CRD worked so well. I think you lucky folks with the new electronics in the '06 models will perform better in these situations. No more mechanical locking rear differential, but with the computer, it turns both front and rear open differentials into locking type by adding brake pressure to the spinning wheel and forcing the other to turn. A true 4x4! :D

One thing I did noticed was when I put it into 4 Low, the esp automatically turn off. I don't know it that allows it grip and better, but I didn't slide at all. Very pleased with it.

The ESP system has 2 traction functions. One is the type that detects wheel spin and applies the brakes to the spinning wheel, the second is similar but only applies the brakes to a spinning wheel across each axel, basically giving you the electronic version of a limited slip diff.

When you put it in 4WD low, all the ESP functions are disabled EXCEPT the limited slip across an axel function.

Its in the users manual :)
