Is there a write up on how to install gauges in the CRD? I would like to have oil pressure, egt and water temp gauges and not have to rely on the idiot lights. :dizzy:

Very funny JL, that isn't helpful to the guy.

We already have a water temp gauge, better choice would be a boost gauge. If you really want to get special, there is a turbo speed gauge that could also be installed, but that is $$$ to get.

Location of the probe for EGT will be your difficult choice, I put mine in the mouth of the turbo right near the manifold connection, so that I am sampling at the hottest possible location. Putting the oil pressure sender down opposite the filter (where the stock sender is) is a waste of energy IMHO, as that sensor will always have pressure being shoved at it from the pump and filter... Until there isn't enough oil left to create that pressure. By then, the engine is gone already. I am working on a mod that will put a sender onto the TOP of the engine, on the turbo feed line. If pressure drops there, you should know it before any real damage is done.

Boost can be tapped in a number of locations, that is up to you.

There are a number of threads on installing gauges. Just use the Search function here to put in some key words and have a look throguh the results (only search the CRD section obviously). There is also a few that you can find on Google (posted by members here on other forums - Dodge comes to mind).
Gauges usually come with some instructions so that helps as well.

Search Patracy, he did some gauges.

several folks have done gauges - there's no common thread - gmctd did a great EGT, there have been some good pressure gauge installs.
but you have to search for them.

In my opinion... a boost guage is a waste of time, money, and space. So you are running at 5, 10, 20, 30 PSI... who cares?? We don't enter these vehicles into sled pulls, we don't drag race them, so who cares? In daily driving, the ECU will protect the turbo. So the ONLY good a boost guage does is just for show.

A much better investment would be for an oil pressure guage, to monitor the lifeblood of the engine, a transmission temp. guage to monitor the lifeblood of the transmission, and *optional an exhaust temp. guage...although that is sort of just for show as well since most of us will never toast the turbo in the use that this vehicle will see.

Personally, what I'd like it oil pressure, trans. temp., and battery voltage. That would basically give you what you NEED that we don't already have...and it would fit in a standard 3-pod guage setup.

A boost gage will tell you if you have a split or loose intercooler hose, leaking intercooler, or malfunctioning turbo system, so it's not worthless.

What CatCRD said. Also, I agree with the sentiment of having an oil pressure gauge, IF it is mounted in a smart location like on the top of the engine. Then, with a boost gauge as well - You will have the most vital information: No boost, but oil pressure is normal? Answer is a split hose. No need to panic.
No boost, oil pressure is not normal? Turbo failure, shut the engine off NOW!

Without a boost gauge, you don't have all the information.

"oil pressure is not normal" = "shut it down now regardless of anything else"
