Hello, Changed the oil & filter today. Went with Rotella T6 5W40 . Is it normal for the filter to not take oil? I tried priming the filter with oil (Fram 8316) and it would not take any. Is there a check valve in the filter? John |

Don't know about the oil filter question, but been running Shell Rotella oil in my cars since I was 16 years old in 1961. I own 3 diesels, 09 Jetta SW, 06 Lib. CRD, 05 Mercedes E320 CDI. Run Rotella Syn. 5/40 in the Jeep and Merc. Jetta has a DPF that takes only a VW 507 low sulpher oil. |

First off, I would not recommend a Fram filter... go with Wix or Napa (same thing, model # 51515 or 51516) or the Mobil 1 Purolator. As to your question, I'm not sure what you mean by "priming" the oil filter. It goes in horizontally, so everything would spill out. Just screw it on tight, add the 6.4 qts from the top, and let the engine idle for a minute or so. |
