hey yall I have a 06 crd and we have local fair here every year and theres lots of diesels. I thought it would be cool it I could wire a smoke switch up to roll a little coal for the gatherings. I know the guys with the full size trucks either wire a toggle switch in to the MAP sensor or the turbo. I can't find anything on our jeeps? I see the jetta TDI guys do it so there must be a way for us to! Thank yall!

You could disable the vgt controller by unplugging the modulator lines.

Then when you floor it it will "roll coal"
Sounds cool too. (i have a straight exhaust with stock intake)

But if you intend to drive around like this for several miles, i'd think twice, as egt's skyrocket. For example, there is a medium sized hill in my area. I usually pull it at around 600f. Without the controller, it's in excess of 1100f

Also you will experience low power at speeds under 3k rpm.

Any way to wire an electric valve to the line? Also, yeah where is the VGT?

Simply disconnect the vac lines that go to the modulator.

They are the only vac lines on the jeep, between the coolant tank and air cleaner housing.
When you disconnect the correct line, the exhaust tone will change at idle.
You will set off the cel (no biggie)

You could easily set up a relay or switch to a valve that could do the same thing.

the Turbo will preform as if it is fixed in geometry.
the excess fuel injected without enough air will cause black smoke (incomplete combustion due to lack of air)

IF you floor it and or feather it at lower rpms (where the turbo will effectively be too large) it will smoke.
if you rev it up into rpm ranges where the fixed turbo is effective in relationship to load, it will not smoke.

I tried that...really did not do much...barley any smoke has to be a way with map sensor to fool jeep in to dumping more fuel in...all we have to do is fool the jeep that there is no boost or lower boost and will dump more fuel in thus roll coal...maybe that gde ( if I got it right? ) would know something?

How? Was it left on too long? I'm running a straight exhaust system so if its due to the dpf or muffler clogging I'm not worried about that. The EGT's will rise but I would be using it momentarily and not for long periods of time.. Either way I am intrigued!!

Well, the EGR has been deleted, the provent is installed, although I'm hunting for a better "catch can" the good ole mason jar just isn't my style. I change the oil every 5k with 5w-30 and I have the nice greaseable A-Arms. What am I missing?

so why is pushing smoke good?

sorry but I don't think its good..
1. the black smoke i unburnt fuel
2. projects and enhances the image the diesels are dirty..ignore that they might be 25% more MPG than gas
need more reasons!!!

forget the switch..keep it clean no smoke

It is a substitution for "bodily enhancement" that is usually represented by the purchasing of a giant truck, then modding it with even larger wheels... Then using said enormous truck for going to the grocery store. Bonus points will be awarded if the dumb truck gets stuck under a fast-food overhang.

To the ones who might be interested in doing this... You don't need to try and impress the rest of us, that roll of dimes in your pocket is comedy enough. ;)

Not all of those enhancing trucks are grocery getters. Even in jeeping people build these ridiculous rigs and all the tires touch is pavement. Besides, all I carry is quarters in my pocket 8) AAAAAAAAnyway, thanks for the advice.. I have steered away from the smoke switch.. Last night I was detailing my jeep and am beginning to see tiny tiny rust spots on the front quarter panels of the forward doors. I am thinking a trip to line-x will clean it up. Do you guys know of anyone who has done this and what it ran them?

Cannot help you on cost but be sure to kill the rust dead before coating. I use industrial strength phosphoric acid and/or sand blasting/sand paper for that.
