Hi, I have a 2002 2.5 crd which from yesterday has started stalling when it hits 60mph,the engine stops dead and I have no idea why, dont think its fuel starvation, the glas trap still has fuel in & the car restarts again without any problem,it's aslo driving fine under 60mph? please help, any ideas? I have seen people post the same problem on other forums with no solution

I'm guessing - but I think it could still be a partially clogged fuel filter - just enough to prevent full power - but not enough to cause problems at lower fuel demand situations.

(and while I was changing - I'd look at the air filter too )

Thanx for that,I will buy a fuel filter & try it,I fitted a K & N air filter when I bought the car as it seemed a bit slow on pick up :D

2x on fuel filter.

I would stay away from K&N air filter on a turbo diesel. It might be just me but I have seen and been told that they don't filter fine dirt so well to get the improved air flow they get. Dirt is bad for your turbo and engine.

I agree with all the guys who reccomend changing fuel filter :)
Just a thought, the 2002 CRD fortunately comes standard with a lift pump fitted....maybe that needs to be checked :?
Do you have any OBDII codes logged? Do the ignition on/off four times trick to pull out any codes...definitely works on the 2002

Cleaning your MAP would not be a bad idea either.

Oh, tangov8, in case you are not aware of it there is an excellent CRD section a few clicks below; "Liberty CRD, Love the torque" and below that the "CRD Tech" forum.
These are the forums you should be looking through and then post your quiries in the Liberty CRD section....there are some serious CRD experts in those two sections that definitely should be able to help you out and you may find that someone has previously posted a similar problem to yours. :)

Fixed that

Back on topic, yeah, try a fuel filter and clean the MAP sensor while you're at it. Do not overstress the manual liftpump on the fuel filter head.

Is it always at 60mph? I had an issue with stalling but it ending up being the wiring harness, the large one behind that alternator. Worth a look I guess. Seeing as it is at high speeds it does sound like a fuel issue. Does it just shut down or does it kind of spudder out?

Hi all
Thanks for the advise,I replaced the fuel filter & road tested it,still the same, however I added some more fuel & left the fuel cap off & re tested, ran at 80mph + with no cutting out! I am thinking that the cap breather is poor causing a vacum or that the tank has something init which is rising & blocking the fuel & dropping into the tank again when the engine stalls? ( in answer to a previous question the engine stops dead & does not die down, but starts again on the key straight away)
P.s thanks for moving my question to the proper place :D

Have you tried running the engine RPMs up while it's stopped (park or neutral depending on auto or manual). It would be good to know if the behavior is the same if you're not under load.

Hi All
Have now cleaned the MAP/MAF sensor as per Noob guide and members advise,it looked worse than the pictures in the guide! done now anyway. The part fitted to my CRD is not quite the same, dont know if it's because it's UK spec or older/newer so am going to try to find out of Bosch if it's been modified.
The next part of guide is about the Intercooler hoses, mine from the turbo to the intercooler is Very wet (orther is ok) do you get any better BHP from the Samco hoses,in the UK they are easy to buy but quite expensive £180 ish,or should I get one from the local dealer or make up a hose from a silicone hose supplier?

You probably won't get (much if any) of a performance increase from the Samco hoses. They are simply better at resisting oil rot that the rubber lines.

If you can get a local shop to manufacture you a similar set that makes all the clearances for less money, by all means, proceed :) Just make sure they stand behind their product.

Does yours look like this:

Then you probably have an '01 (date of build, 2002 model year)...like me.

It does now it's clean! yes mine IS the same as yours.
Been out today in the Jeep, running better & showing 3 MPG more (usually 25ish showing 28.2!) will see what happens when the wife goes to work in it ie round town, its only a short trip so it may drop back down.
Has anyone cleaned the intercooler out,is it easy to get off without removing the viscous fan?
I have always been a fan of the green oval (Land Rover) & was thinking of changing back to a TD5 Disco, but if the Jeep has a bit more go init I will be happy (booked a ecu re map) & it seems to be winning me over + the wife likes the Jeep better & it,s her car!
I have a toy Landrover 1972 V8 anyway! :BANANA
