| Post subject: | 2002 2.5 CRD Non starter - How do I get fault codes again ? |
Hello everybody, I've got a 2.7 WJ CRD myself but my better half has got a 2002 KJ 2.5 CRD with 120K on the clock. Unfortunately don't love the KJ torque at the moment because it is sitting on the drive and refuses to start. a bit of history : Last wednesday she fueled up and drove home from work, approx 20 miles. Thursday she does the school run and on the way out the engine cuts out, coasts to a stop, waits a minute, starts and she drives home. Friday morning -> no go. Engine turns over but no sign of life. Oddly the fuel gauge does not budge when ignition is on (and I'm sure that when you put the key in, it gives you a reading) Glowplug light does not come on either. Overhead computer says 0 fuel in the tank. Even put 3 gallons in yesterday. Did a bit of reading in the KJ CRD section and found that you either have to turn the ingnition key 2 x within 5 seconds and then on and somewhere else I've seen 4 x. In any case I've tried 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x & 5x but cannot get a code reading. Am I looking at a electrical + a fuel issue here ? Any help welcome and thanks. |

Definitely on my 2002 2.5 CRD I get codes as follows: Turn on ignition but do not start the engine. Turn off quickly Turn on quickly Repeat this until you have turned it on 5 times....leave it on and read off the codes on the Odometer strip; the oldest code shows first with the most recent code showing last. I have just tested it in my Jeep now....definitely 5 ON turns...very fast.!(I always thought it was 4 times?) Does not always work....you have to retry to get it work eventually! You can check that the guages move and all panel lights are operative by: Hold down the Odometer reset button while turning on the ignition...the gauges move up and down and all panel lights come on. Once you have some codes you have a chance of finding the fault! I wonder if the fuel you put in is good! |
