Does anybody know of a trick to disable the seat belt reminder. I tried a trick that works on Wranglers once on my 05 CRD Liberty but it didn't work.

The 2005 & 2006 CRDs have an Enhanced Seat Belt Use Reminder System that's an endless annoying nag. That system can be turned off by following the instructions on pages 46-47 of the 2005 Owners Manual (pages 45-46 for 2006). If you don't have a copy of the manual (it's hidden on a shelf in the upper part of the glove box) you can download one from the Sam's NOOB guide. Taking this action does not completely disable the seat belt reminder but it does reduce it to 5 chimes at start up and of course the seat belt warning light in the dash stays lit.

Hi, I've only had My 06 2.8CRD for a couple of months so still learning.

Mine chimes 5 times at every ignition-on which is extremely annoying. Is this just telling me to put a seat belt on? Is there any way it can silenced?

Well the simple solution, not to be smart, and the one that will prevent you from getting a ticket in some states if fasten your seat belt not to mention that I was REALLY happy mine was fastened when the dump truck rear ended my original 05 CRD. Spun xx times in the intersection and walked out of the vehicle with a tiny bruse on my left knee from the steering column adjustment lever.

That said 5 chimes is the factory "least" chimes setting although I suppose you could find the chimer and kill it but I suspect that will kill several other reminders like key in the ignition and lights on which can create whole different sources of entertainment for you.

Yes, seat belts can be useful and a legal requirement here in the UK too. The issue here is not about wearing a seat belt. It's about how a seat belt warning should work.
On every other car I've ever had you get in turn the ignition on start the engine and drive off. If you have failed to put your belt on, the car will then give you a warning to remind you, which is good, keeps us safe and within the law etc etc.
So, the question is; are these 5 chimes really meant to be a seat belt warning? If so, it doesn't work. It could be warning us about anything!
As the only reference I've found about chimes at ignition cycle time relate to the TPMS, how would anyone know if they had a TPMS problem if the things chimes every time you switch it on, TPMS problem or not?
It just doesn't seem to make sense.

I'm doing this from memory so I could be off a bit so you really need to check your owner's manual which should be on the top shelf inside the glove box but if not go to Sir Sam's NOOB guide and follow the links to download a copy. If you have not already done so you need to read thru the NOOB guide anyway.

Any chimes at key on should be reflected in a corresponding instrument cluster light. In my case I reset my seat belt warning chimes from continuous to just 5 chimes at startup but after the 5 chimes run their course if I haven't fastened my seatbelt the red seatbelt light stays on in the instrument cluster. I don't recall a multiple TPMS chime but in any case that should also trigger a low tire pressure warning light in the cluster or, if you have it, the EVIC.

If you don't have the red seatbelt warning light you need to see if it comes on when you switch on the ignition or run the instrument cluster light/gauge test as you may have a burned out LED for that light. FYI the LEDs are replaceable although a dealer will try to sell you an entire new cluster instead.

Disable seat belt chime

The seat belt chime can be enabled or disabled by following these steps.

Note: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and buckle the drivers seat belt.

2. Turn the ignition key to the ACCESSORY/RUN position (engine does not need to be running), and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver’s seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.

NOTE: Although The CHIME has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Light will continue to illuminate while the driver’s seat belt remains unfastened.

This worked for me and I think it’s right out of the owner’s manual. It was one of the first things I did when I bought my Jeep.

Thanks, I've been through that process. It does stop the "sensible" seatbelt reminder chimes (those that occur about a minute after you've driven off). Disabling these, for most of us, is probably a bad thing and might encourage us to be a bit lax when just popping down the road to the shops. It made no difference to the five chimes at ignition on.

Previous posts imply that 5 chimes is normal at ignition on and is, indeed, meant to remind us to "belt up". If I fasten the belt before switching on it only chimes once so I'm beginning to think that 5 chimes is normal operation. Can anyone confirm that they all do that?

If so, I'm back to chewing gum in the sounder - just enough to mute it a bit - I'm not deaf!

It's my understanding that the 5 chimes at start up with seat belt unfastened is the minimum that can be owner programmed. At least that's the minimum I could program.

Old thread, I know. But I just tried this with my 05 and I got the chime after I turned the jeep off, hopefully it worked. I will find out tomorrow and let you know.

Well it worked on my '05 KJ CRD. Worked great! No more stupid DING DING DING crap all the time. I wear my seatbelt all the time, but just moving the Jeep around my driveways and around on the farm, it was very annoying! So glad it's gone! Thanks

Now to figure out the stupid door locking at 15mph crap....... But I think that's a dealer thing. Since I have no overhead console.
