Hey folks, Noob here...I've been lurking for over a year, ready to take the plunge...going to look at a '05 Limited, 75-K, $12,900
Asked if he kept maintenance records..."I'd have to check the glove box."

Not encouraging.

I'll run the VIN (when I look at it Monday) and ask about what he's done to it, if anything...fluids, filters, mods, hoses, etc...any specific deal-breakers I should ask about?

User manual/warranty/maintenance records are in a pouch which has a slot hiding at the top of the glove box.

That is where I keep my maintenance records too.

True, but he sounded like he wasn't very sure whether he was keeping records or not. Maybe I'm reading too much into that...but I'll still give him the benefit of a doubt and check it out...

other than standard maintenance issues

you can check for a tuner box - at the MAP sensor - that where you'd plug in something to fool the turbo pressure.

you might see if it's been used for heavy towing - won't hurt the engine - but the original torque converters could die from normal driving.

UPDT: Looked at it this afternoon. It's a Sport, not a Limited as was advertised w/ 78-K not 75-K. Seller was a car broker who bought it from an old school chum who lease then purchased it for herself. He had no knowledge of the maintenance history, and the service log w/the owners manual was blank. I'm passing on it, I think I can do better. ( Never having driven one, I had to take it for a test drive. Interesting to hear the turbo spool up like it did. Nice pickup from the line! I hope I'm not becoming an addict....)

Just because there is no paper trail for the maintenance does not mean it has not been taken care of,though in this day and age almost all vehicles are poorly maintained.I know my KJ is one of the most maintained and I don't have one single receipt,it's all in my head.

Understood....I know that I change the oil on my cars every 5-K, and I 'll admit I don't do a very good job of writing it down. But for any repairs/maintenance beyond my garage and driveway, the bills are on file.

In this situation, the guy--again, a broker--only had the CRD for 3 weeks and didn't have the previous owners' history. That's really not asking a lot. With any higher-mileage car, there's at least one wallet bomb waiting to happen. I'd like to know what's been done, what's needed and what to expect . ( A new set of tires would be in order here, along with the dreaded 100-K timing belt, but that's okay.) If I can live with the downside and get a fair price, we're good to go.

If I wanted to pursue this CRD further, I could have him get back with the previous owner and find out. And that's still an option. But there's another CRD on my list with 3-K fewer miles on the clock, more options and the asking price is $2-K cheaper...

Hey, I've waited this long... :juggle:

You should buy mine... it's much cooler than any other you'll find and I have a CarFax report on it. Most of the custom parts have been sold off; but what is staying on is a DTT, 4.10 gears, OME lift, Rosen overhead video and heated leather seats with JL Audio's slogan "Ahead of the Curve" embroidered into the seat backs. Good times.

Holla acha boy.
