I may end up having the tc swapped for the stronger one ...part number 68037142AA

but what about the transmission pump......does it need to be changed on a 2006 or just the tc

anyone know the part number of the redesigned one or does the 2006 already have the redesigned version installed from factory?

thanks

The redesigned pump came out after the end of 2006 production :SOMBRERO:
So NO, 2006 crd's did not come with the redesigned pump :juggle:
As a matter of good pratice you should replace the front seal that is no longer available forcing you into a new style pump :JEEPIN:

Many, including myself and GDE on several KJ CRDs have installed the "euro" TC without replacing the TC seal and not had any problems. If the seal is not leaking, there is no reason to replace it. If it is, you should replace it.

As Joe noted, if the seal has to be replaced, you have to replace the pump because the "old style" seal is no longer available. (In many cases, trans "shudder" has been blamed on bad pumps when the real culprit is almost always weak TC dampener springs.)

If you put in just a "euro" TC, (i.e. no new pump, seal, shift kit, HD clutches, etc.) you are very likely to have the same excellent results most of us have had. I think you will be hard pressed to find any posts from people who have gone this route and had problems. Ironically, you will find numerous "problem" posts from folks who have opted to spend a fortune on installing all the most expensive HD components.

BTW, it's not that I think that the "better" parts are causing the problems. However, installing them successfully involves "monkeying" with things that there seem to be few technicians who are fully competent to deal with and/or set up correctly. If you simply remove the trans and TC and then just replace the TC and reinstall the trans, there's so much less to screw up.

There's a poor guy who is posting now who may prove to be yet another example of this. I certainly hope everything gets squared away to his full satisfaction, but he has probably already dropped over $3000 (parts and labor) and his Jeep transmission is still not working properly.

So far, we have about 60 K miles on our "euro" TC with about 10K of that towing a 5K pound trailer. No problems, yet.

thanks very much for the info.....I will make sure the mechanic checks out the seal

is it much extra labour to change the pump if needed?
