My 06 CRD is having problems. My front tires with about 20,000 miles on them are worn unevenly. I get a wining sound when I drive and some shake in the steering wheel. I swapped the rear tires to the front because they are fine and it helped a bit. The ABS, EPS and traction control lights are on. I had a shop go through the front end and I have no problems with ball joint, tie rod ends etc. The front end is tight. I do get some pulsing and shake when braking so the front rotors may be warped. Any suggestions on how I can get the lights off and solve tire wear problem. It is a bit scary to drive on corners when your over 60 mph and at that speed I watch my passenger seat shake left to right even after rotating the tires. I may just get all new tires but I want to figure out whats wrong first. Thanks for you help.

multiple issues - separate them out.

1) ABS, EPS and traction control lights are on - there are wheel sensors - on the 06 I think you have them at all 4 corners - sounds like a wire is broken - connection open?

2) whining sound - Engine speed? wheel speed? - could be a front wheel bearing?

3) shake in the front end - wheels out of balance normally - you swapped them and they got better - so maybe the brake rotors are warped - but vibrating the seats? - sounds more like a wheel is bent - did someone run into a curb? - bent wheels on the rear could still cause a shake - a good alignment shop should be able to sort that out.

might also be worth looking at new front shocks

there may be a common thread if someone tried to work on it and they didn't know what they're doing - impact wrenches can have a real nasty effect on bolts that are supposed to be torqued correctly

I put my code reader on and got the code U0121. I think this is "Lost communication with the ABS" which I guess could be a broken or grounded wire somewhere?

The whining sound is right from the start and gets louder with speed. I had the wheel bearings checked so I think it is the tires.

I'd wonder about motor mounts (hard to check on the vehicle but some have suggested pulling the passenger side mount and shaking it - if it rattles it's bad - if bad best replace both - mounts on both sides are the same so save $s by buying the 2 cheaper ones and swapping the heat sheld from the old mount with the shield to the new one) or either/both front CV joints and drive shaft U joints which can produce whine and shake all thru the vehicle.

If you read the manual it's specified on the CRD that the tires are rotated at every 6k mile oil change

My bearing was going for weeks and all you say I had. Not to mention the only other thing that have triggered my ESP \ BAS lights were ABS related (ABS Module) or one of the wheel sensors.

Good Luck.

Well I have solved some of the problems. I replaced the front brake rotors and pads and that help with the shaking under braking. Still have all the lights on and good vibration/shake. The Jeep dealer diagnosed the ABS/EPS/Traction lights are on because of a bad hub that is effecting the wheel sensor. This should be fixed tomorrow. I think any remaining problems will probably be resolved by replacing the tires. Thanks for all your help.
