Timing belt change coming up. I plan on doing the water pump by removing the rear belt cover. FSM mentions two gaskets for the rear timing belt cover - block interface. Do those need to be replaced? I've got all the other parts in waiting. |

The gaskets behind the rear cover are more of a dust seal than anything else. One is paper and the others are a foam gasket. You can sparingly use a bead of silicone to refresh the foam seals. And also to repair the paper gasket if you tear it. Replace the gaskets the next time at 200,000 miles. |

I guess I can use some ultra hi-temp RTV. That's what comes from the factory on the front gear case on my 06 Cummins. I've had that thing off twice and RTV works fine. |
